Popular Post Islandboy Posted August 20, 2017 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2017 Maui for the typical tourist includes: The Road to Hana, A drive to the summit of Haleakala, Whale-Watching Boats and Booze Cruises, and of course - The Beaches. But these are my friends we’re talking about, so mountain biking would be a priority. We’d have some coffee and a quick bite sitting on my patio, catching up a bit. A rainbow would likely enter the picture. Then we’d hit the road and drive up to the Kula Forest Reserve, on the slopes of Haleakala where a recreational trail network otherwise known as Poli-Poli is located. The riding up is grueling, but eventually takes you near the summit to views like this. My home is clear on the other side of the West Maui mountains seen in the background. The ride down is fast and grin-inducing, and most of it is at cloud-level. Here I am doing my best to stay upright and dry. Assuming no one needs emergency care at this point, we’d all go eat lunch somewhere that serves cold beer, and doesn’t care what you smell like. Then it’s time to hit the beach at Napili Bay and do some serious relaxing. As luck would have it, the Seahouse Restaurant at the Napili Kai Beach Resort has a bar that sits at waters edge. With the day’s adventures behind us, it’s time to sit on my patio again with a beverage or 3 to catch the sunset and lick our wounds. Then it’s off to Star Noodle in Lahaina for dinner, after which we settle in at Maui Brewing Company - the hometown microbrewery conveniently located within stumbling distance of my house. Maui - Islandboy style. 23

PapaDisco Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Wow! That's lovely! You know they have Uber over there now . . . you don't have to peddle uphill . . . Where does one smoke cigars on Maui? Is it hard to find spots?

Where does one smoke cigars on Maui? Is it hard to find spots? Heh heh, thanks guys. I mainly enjoy my cigars on that handy patio of mine. I know we have a larger set of laws than most stating where one can’t smoke - including public beaches - but honestly the outdoors are quite inviting year round and it’s not hard to find one’s own little corner of a beach or park somewhere where strategic positioning and the trade winds will help keep things civil.
brschoppe Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Looking forward to being out there again in June of next year. I have heard good stuff about Star Noodle too. Also, looking to hit Maui Brewing too. 1

Markspring1978 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Great write up. In Maui this week for my wife’s and my 20th. Not sure if anyone will see this, any good shops in Maui? Looks like more are vapes and glass pipes.

The only shops that have cigar humidors here are the Tamura’s Wine and Liquor stores. Locations are Lahaina, Kahului, Wailuku, and Kihei. Best selection of sticks are in Kahului and Kihei. Unfortunately nothing real high end, but they always have a few that are fairly good. Enjoy!
leafdream54 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 It sounds like the perfect day. I hope to visit for the first time, sometime soon! 1

Thanks Mate, appreciate the quick reply. Weather here is beautiful. Was in Kauai with the kids in April, rained every day, all day. 1
40 Palms Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Took our girls to Maui 15 yrs ago. Did the road to Hana in our rental jeep too ? But that was before I got into mountain biking. That ride looks epic, Islandboy. How many feet of climbing did you get in? Love to climb as that makes the downhills all that much better. Brett
