funny you should post this.

i had an email this morning from a great mate of mine from canada - have not seen him for 20 years but we keep in touch every couple of years - and he was going on about a dog called gavel. i had absolutely no idea what he was on about till i saw this. have not seen any mention of it here in qld at all.

the current governor, not that i am one for regal appointments, is generally very highly regarded. was a brilliant lawyer, former chief justice. never hear a bad word. something that can't always be said about all of his predecessors.

Good to hear that about the Governor. I was hoping I wasn’t posting something about a good dog whose owner is a jerk of a politician (always a statistical probability in that line of work).

the one positive about our regal appointments is that they are rarely ex-politicians. largely a ceremonial role. so they do want people who have some respect in the community.
