rumrogue Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I love me Rum, shipmate but Fidel's got to be fahnn joking methinks. To get value for money you would need to be hungover for what, 3 weeks? A 3 day hangover I can just about cope with but 21 days? errrrrr I'll get back to you.... ;-)
DocRKS Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 There comes a point where no matter how "GOOD" something is purported to be - what they are asking for pricewise just makes the purchase stupid money.... $550 for any bottle of rum is way past that point....

^nsmoke Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 It's not a Havana Club reply but it turned the lightbulb on! Being new to rum I went to a local liquer supercenter here in Houston called Spec's and spoke with their rum sales dept and they suggested 2 to try. One was Ron Anejo Aniversario, a product of Venezuela, which comes in a nice leather pouch and the other was Ron Zacapar Centenario a 23 year old blend from Guatemala, the bottle has a twist off cap and wrapped in palm leaf basket, both changed my opinion on what rum should taste like! Any experiance with either of these?
jjisaacson Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 $550!!??!!??!! all i can think about is how many GREAT cigars that would buy and still have a lil money left over to buy a decent bottle of rum... :-P

Any experiance with either of these? we don't see either downunder, or at least i have not. the comment about how many great cigars you can buy and still have money left for a top rum makes huge sense. the most expensive rum i ever bought was $100 - it was a once-off - the ron santiago de cuba extra anejo. it is absolutely brilliant and i'd be much more likely, if i had the money, to buy five of those and still have change.
El Presidente Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 WOW! $500! I would have to mix that with real Coke as opposed to Pepsi Max ;-)

Any experiance with either of these? ^nsmoke, The Zacapa 23 is in my top 3 rums. In that three are Santa Teresa and Rhum Neisson Reserve which is a Rhum Agricole from Martinique. The Zacapa 23 is a bit sweet and goes great with a San Crissy La Punta. The Santa T a little woody and is stellar with a JL #1...and the Neisson - well it goes great with anything. Pour it over your cereal and you'll be amazed.
Ken Gargett Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 not sure about cereal but i put some of the superstrength inner circle (pushing 80%) in the blender with bananas and milk and that went over the muesli. sensational.
