Cmelle Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I bought this cigar mid 2016 in the 'Robs rotation sampler'. It isn't the best looking. Wrapper is a flaky, dry goldy colour. It reminded me of gold fish food. I cut it with a straight guillotine cut. Draw, burn and construction are near perfect, as all cigars are from Rob. I wasn't expecting much due to the wrapper. First third started out with some light cedar, slight bit of cream and a bit earthy. In the second third, the cedar dropped off and was replaced with hay. Not a lot of cream coming through either. I still haven't tasted any of the savoury spice that i have enjoyed in these in the past. The last third finished with the slight hay and cream and earth. A bit of sourness also came in which was interesting. Also some bitterness in the last third. Ash was also very flaky and didn't hold on at all. Wasn't a bad cigar, but wasn't a great cigar also. Average cigar and I still enjoyed it. Medium bodied. 1
JohnS Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I wish it was better for you. When you can get that combination of woodiness, cream and light chocolate in a very mild smoke, then you know you've hot a winner with a Hoyo de Monterrey stick! Thanks for the review.
TheMonk Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Definitely not a fan of this one either, but nice job nonetheless!
