havanaclub Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Thanks for the post. Very useful. I don't think my freezer is cold enough as it is a regular household freezer. Do you think 3.5 days is enough? Should I re-freeze the rest of the batch? I have them quarantined at the moment. Hey Luca. I am not an expert at this. I just did some research when I had an issue. What I noticed that was interesting, these little buggers adapt to their environment like anything in the world and it took longer to kill the "acclimated larval". My freezer just got down to -6C. So if I had some stubborn little critters I probably didn't have complete destruction as I didn't leave my cigars in for weeks. I would just quarantine and monitor the ones you froze. If you see another outbreak try to do another longer or deeper freeze. Just my opinion. No expert here. Just based on that data I posted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Luca Posted May 11, 2017 Author Posted May 11, 2017 I had a beetle hole in one of my RACA sticks and i didnt notice it initially until i saw fine dust on my lap. I froze all the sticks and the vendor was kind to refund me the damaged stick. The vendor got back to me and asked me to return the cigars. Very nice of them! I'll be mailing them off next week.Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Luca Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 @DirtyHarry this is the post I was talking about. Have a look at @havanaclub post which talks about the time required to kill beetles in the freezer (on page 1 of this thread). Luca 1
Zedman05 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Commercial refrigeration walk-in freezers are always set at -18 C ( 0 F), unless otherwise instructed by the owner for any odd reason. This temperature is a usual requirement. We don't usually see anything lower than this, unless it is an ultra-low set up of -40 and below. Your deep freeze ( chest freezer) at home will also run down to that same temp, if you turn the temp adjusting knob down as well. The freezer portion of your fridge, usually gets between -14 C and -18 C, but it opens up more often. Just so you all know; there is no difference between your deep freeze and a commercial walk-in freezer, other than the walk-in uses active cooling ( fans ) to blow the air around. They both should opperate at the same temps. No worries. So go ahead and freeze your stuff at home, and if unsure, and you are using the obove pictured time/temp stat, leave them in for a bit longer. Hope this helps a bit.
