Jonesy22 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Hello everyone! Newbie to cigars but loving it! Setup a 70qt coolidor but wondering on few things...my temps stays a bit low,and 60°f. Rh is 69% (full lb of 70% heartfelt beads) am i in danger of beatles or mold from storage at these temps? Should I drop my humidity? Know some of this is preference but want to make sure I'm on safe side for storage, which is my main concern...help!! Thank you all!
havanaclub Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 That temp is fine and on the low end. Temperatures over 72-74F pose more of a risk for mould. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Cmelle Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Temp seems ok. I'm by no means a pro, but when i first joined this great forum, i learnt pretty quick that Cuban cigars smoke better at a lower rh. After some trial and error, I try and keep mine between 60-65rh. Hope that helps. I'm sure some of the guys with more experience and knowledge will chime in soon too. Cheers and welcome to the forum. 1
torsion Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I only have a coolidor.Temp seems ok.For my taste I keep the RH lower ie 58-62RH depending on time of year and ambient RH fluctuation.I do not have temp control and during summer my apartment reaches very high (75F+) temps. From my personal experience I now freeze everything for peace of mind.I had a beetle problem which I never want to experience again 1
Stick burner Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Jonesy22The I'm sure Piggy will chime in on the topic, just take take his advise. I'm willing to guess that many forum members will tell you that your RH is way too high. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Jonesy22 Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Thank you everyone...any help and tips are greatly appreciated....if I want to drop my rh do I have to order new beads or just wait till gets right %?...
havanaclub Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 My initial thought would be to get new beads. You could probably tinker with the beads you have and let them dry out. But that would probably end up being a pain in the butt as you would eventually need to re hydrate them. Then RH would jump again. My suggestion would be need beads or boveda packs to keep things consistent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
uscmd310 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I feel Rh is personal preference. Cuba keeps their Rh at 70-75. Most in the USA 65ish. I like cigars at both, so I just keep one humidor at 70 and one at 65. I tend to like fresh cigars (which is my way of saying I'm piss poor at aging cigars). The humidor I keep at Rh 70 is a eurocave so I can control temperature. The humidor that is Rh 65 is pendergast so I'm not as able to control it's temperature. 1
Sean3 Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Many of us have found a lower rH to be beneficial. After lowering the humidity in my wineador, and letting the cigars acclimatize for about 6 weeks, I found that they were dramatically better in terms of flavor. The lower rH also got rid of the acridness some cigars had. You'll have to find your own sweet spot, but I've found 62%-64% (according to my hygrometers), to be about right. I've also recently discovered that air circulation is in fact, very important to well kept, proper smoking cigars. The air circulation factor was such an eye opener, that I have ordered some new fans, and will be installing them as time allows (this is my very busiest time of year). Oh...yes, pay attention to anything Mr. Piggy or Mr. Fugu have to say on the subject. Cheers. 1
ctozzi Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 I just se up my New Air last week after having major temp issues here in Vegas. My Rh seems to be around 69-72 with my Vigilant Sentry 100 that I figured I would try with what I spent on it years ago. My Temps are constant at 65 with the cooler. I am looking at finding a pre wired AC plug in fan to move around the air a bit more. All in all I'm very very happy with my cooler over my armoire.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have same newair and I had some issues . temp on top was 5-7 degrees higher than bottom and humidity around 5% less than bottom. I put 2 fans at bottom rear corner blowing constant air from bottom to top. / attached is picture/ all good now but im worried that air blowthrough half of the shelve where my singles are and i dont know whether this might damage them. I tried with timer to run fans 15mins every hours but then temp and humidity differs again so left them on all the time:) any idea anyone blowing air at singles bad for them? 1

Pharmacovigilant Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 I age some 10-12 boxes of cc's in my coolerdor, which I've kept in my basement for years where temps range from 56-63 deg F, depending on season. Cooler contains about 6-7 large Boveda packs, 65%, and hygrometer reads a consistent 65%. For me, it's a perfect set up and everything smokes great. Just my two pence. 2

Just my two pence.I also have a similar setup, wineador in my man cave in the basement. Temp stays pretty constant at 60, and I usually have 65% bovedas in there, however I pulled them for the season, as it stays at 65% this time of year without any additional humidification. My advice, find a temp/rh combo that: a. You enjoy your cigars and b. Can consistently maintain. You will drive yourself crazy trying to force a temp/rh that your location won't allow, and fluctuations aren't good for cigars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
