This is a cigar that has had a degree of indifferent interest in the past and as one of RyJ's vast collection of Mareva / PC cigars it gets lost in the crowd. It's cheaper than the others, allegedly a hangover from its machine-made days, but not really that different by all accounts.

This is the last of a 10 box which I've been leapfrogging with a Partagas MF box for comparison. Conclusion - they're subtly different with the PMF winning by a nose, but that's not the point of this review...

This one has a beautiful mottled wrapper and looks good. On lighting there is a mildness to the first flavours - light wood and tea. The ash is darker than I recall seeing on one of these, the draw firm but good. It's not a strong cigar and I've paired it with a mild black coffee, which seems like the right choice.

Into the second third a smooth creaminess comes on, adding a subtle layer along with a sweet bit of dried fruit. I'm hoping for the strength to improve as I like a stronger cigar, but it stays resolutely mild. Hints of cherry and raspberry coming through. Newspaper (?) makes an unexpected appearance.

Into the final third there's a slight tar build up, no doubt from my over pulling on this, but it's moved into a more medium strength now. None of the spice or pepper I associate with the last of a cigar though. In fact, after 40 minutes it tastes like a cigar I've just lit rather than one I'm about to finish. There's a lightness to these which has its place I suppose, but I like something with a bit more meat and gravy. Certainly floral, but I've never really enjoyed gardening. A nice enough cigar though there are plenty out there that are more to my taste and I don't think I'll be replacing this box now that they're gone.

Very true. It's a nice smoke, great for newbies, but there are definitely much more interesting choices out there, even at this price point.
