dangolf18 Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I picked a box up of these in Paris recently. This will be my first time sampling this cigar. I enjoy a JL2 once in a while, which is the only Juan Lopez cigar I've had besides the JLPC. The only JLPC I've had had been acrid and bitter. We'll see how this cigar compares. Looks: Nice coloardo/rosado wrapper with great sheen. Great construction. Draw and aroma: Very firm draw, sweet barnyard and cedar. Aroma is almost Cohiba-esque 1/3: Fairly consistent burn on the first third. Notes of hay, milk chocolate, leather, and cedar. Lots of cream and light espresso. This cigar started producing quite a bit of smoke toward end of the first third. So far so good! Reminds me of a Cohiba Siglo I, albeit not quite as rich. 2/3: CREAM! Intense cream and coffee bean undertones. Leather notes are more pronounced. Getting a hint of peach melba. Draw has improved and has opened up quite a bit. Perfect! 3/3: The smoke has transitioned from medium-bodied to full-bodied. Hay, cream, and leather. Less citrus at this point. Smoked down to the nub. If I had to compare this to another current production cigar, it'd have to be a Cohiba Siglo I or Montecristo Medio Corona. Conclusion: I really enjoyed this cigar. It was quite a bit more complex than the JL2 and much richer in my opinion. If this was a regular production cigar, I'd definitely shy away due to the price. If it were priced like RASCC or SCDLH El Principe, this would definitely make it's way into my rotation. I don't regret buying this box though as it's a nice souvenir from Paris and it's a great smoke. In terms of aging, this could use at least another 3-5 years of aging. It can age indefinitely though in my opinion. If you're in France and can find this and don't mind plunking down $100 for a box, do so. If not, perhaps go for a few singles. 2
TheMonk Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Very nice! JLs usually do benefit from quite a bit of age, IMO.
