My daughter is in the "handing things to you" phase and today she handed me my torch lighter. Best I can figure, it fell out of my pocket while we were playing.

I'm looking for a torch that's effective but has at least a basic level of child protection (like that annoying metal strip in disposable lighter wheels). My current torch is a simple, kid-friendly push button.

If not, I may be using bics.

Thanks in advance.

The Blazer PB-207 has (or at least had - I'm not sure of newer versions) a tab that does not allow the ignition button to simply be pushed without first rotating a thumb wheel up. I don't know if this fits the bill, but it is pretty stout. Blazers have are small with a large capacity and perhaps the most powerful flame I've used in a pocket torch. Unfortunately I've not had great luck with durability of a PB-207 or a CG-001.

I have the FOH lighter, and it's great.  It does have the locking feature, but from my experience, even if it's unlocked, the amount of pressure needed to ignite the torch is probably greater than a young child could muster.  You should be okay.

Just remember, the metal shroud around the gas jet gets pretty hot on the FOH and Blazer PB-207 lighters. So don't hand back to your kid after lighting. Several times I've gotten a minor burn after forgetting and shoving the lighter back in my pocket.
