planetary Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I find the choice of term "loyal" a bit odd; it's not really a question of loyalty, it's a question of knowing (or discovering) what you like, and balancing the comfort of returning to something you know with exploring something new. It's a pity that Habanos and the major retailers don't go in for 5-packs as much as the NC vendors tend to. That really allows for much greater sampling and breadth. So yes, I'm a big fan of variety. People like me want to stock thier humidor (and pipe tobacco cellar, for those who occupy that hobby as well) with a range of cigars to meet the times of day, seasons of the year, and one's own moods. I have learned to not underestimate the importance of mood in choosing a cigar; it can override all other factors, except perhaps bitter cold weather. On the pipe side, I have hundreds of different mixtures in my cellar across lots of different styles. Many of those are getting better aging for long decades, waiting for someone (perhaps me, perhaps my heirs) to discover them. Similarly, in the humidor stock I've been steadily building over the last year, I've got full boxes of (...spreadsheet lookup...) some 15 different CC marcas. I do observe some concentration (Upmann, Cohiba, others you'd expect), but I very much enjoy the variety within Habanos. I wish NC were better, because the variety there should be even greater. Too bad the quality isn't there to match (in my opinion). If there's a clear role for loyalty in all this, it's perhaps most often found between a customer and a trusted purveyor. 1
ElAbogado Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I seem to love the taste of Cuban tobacco generally. I have at least one box of every marca except Guantanamera, la flor de cano Sancho Panza, and Diplomaticas. I'm deepest in Upmann, Cohiba, Bolivar, and Por Larranaga.
Smoker Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 .....I could smoke the same cigar day in and day out. They are never the same and that is what I love about them! This is what I hate about them!!!
CdnLimitada Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 For sure I have my preferences but I will try all brands as long as they are Cuban. I have tried a lot of the NC brands and 99% are not for me. I tend to lean towards: Hoyo Upmann Trinidad Cohiba I could be very happy with just those but am thankful for all the variety in the CC realm.
westg Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Montecristo Upmann Hoyo Cohiba Bolivar Love them all really Cant see myself purchasing any non Cubans again
irratebass Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I am relatively new so I have enjoyed branching out and trying as many different marcas as I can. It's easier to try and do a split or grab a single if I'm not sure about something but if I'm pretty sure/know I'll like them I go for a whole box.Couldn't have said it better....thanks to Rob and crew and some great FOHers I have nice little stash building up.Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk 1
Colt45 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I have a bit of variety, but pretty much all cigars I enjoy, and even a few faves within that group. I've sometimes felt that a wide variety early on has been a way to narrow it down ( consciously or not ) to a few that I always enjoy.
