cjp80 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I have a potential opportunity to visit Japan in the next couple of weeks and am interested in any advice on the restrictions on tobacco use in Japan and places to enjoy a cigar. Any advice would be appreciated.
torsion Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Hey cjp80, my colleague lived in Japan for many years and he mentioned to me The Oak Door in Tokyo,Roppongi Hills. Its primarily a steakhouse so after your meal check out the cigar lounge.Enjoy brother! If you go let us know how it was
cjp80 Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Cheers mate, I'll see if it's an option if I'm venturing that way.
stogieluver Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 You may find the info you're looking for in the Global Cigar Friendly Locations forum. 1
Mr. Japan Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Tokyo is cigar friendly, many cigar bars. My favorite CHARDONNAY in Ometesando.
Popular Post cjp80 Posted September 18, 2016 Author Popular Post Posted September 18, 2016 Hi all, I'd thought I'd post an update to my visit to Japan. I only had the chance to visit one bar in Kyoto, named the Bar Cordon Noir. I'd say their main claim to fame is their selection of Japanese single malts, which in my opinion was right on the money. Low lights, great drink selection, and jazz music set me up for a great night. I'd recommend this spot if you find yourself in this city. 9
KnightsAnole Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 That looks wonderful! I could see spending some time there.
Bill Hayes Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I recently returned from a trip to Japan and loved the Yamazaki too. I was lucky enough to score a bottle for my birthday. Seeing these pics makes me want to go back...or at least crack open the bottle.
Smoking Ninja Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I love Japanese whiskies. You can't go wrong with the stuff that Nikka and Yamazaki put out. The problem is... the prices have been jacked up recent years... Before people were crazy about them, the Nikka Taketsuru 17 years was selling $35 USD at the airport duty free. Now if you can find it for under $100 at the stores, you are very lucky!!! 2
Smoking Ninja Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Most of the local bars in Japan allow you to smoke cigars. You just have to ask the hosts before you do it! I found a local jazz bar (outside of Tokyo) with live jazz music every Friday and it has been my go to place for my cigar smoking while I am there!!!
LLC Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I'm going to Tokyo in October and staying at the Shinagawa Prince hotel. I'll be looking for places to enjoy my cigars while there. Any suggestions are appreciated. I know we are right across from the Shinagawa station so getting around should be ok.

Here's a post I made about a week or so ago - Returned last week from a holiday to Japan which took in Tokyo and Kyoto. Very much enjoyed Japan and the people were very friendly. And seemed very safe. The trip was an excuse not to have a big party for my 50th but spend the money on myself and the missus. What I found interesting was the smoking rules. Smoking in any form is not allowed in the street but there is cordoned off smoking rooms and areas in different parts of the cities - like what you'd find in an airport. There was even one on the bullet train. But unlike Australia, some bars allowed smoking. It had something to do with the ventilation apparently. Smoked my way through a pack of Cohiba minis and then a 10 pack of Cohiba Club. Just thought they suited the environment with most of my smoking in little street-side restaurants called Izakayas which was fantastic. Smoked a connie A at a place in Ginza, Tokyo, called Le Connauissuer I think it was called. Also stayed the last 3 nights at The Palace Hotel in Tokyo where the lobby bar allowed smoking at the bar and a great selection of drinks and cocktails. Great bar. I had forgotten how nice it is just to sit and relax inside a bar with a cigar. Must mention a restaurant out of Kyoto where the chef catches his own wild boar and trout. Strangely, the missus found it recommended by Jessica Alba. Fantastic night and tried all the different things on the menu like grasshoppers and bee larvae. But the wild boar chunky yakatori was awesome. All in all, one of the better trips I've had. 2

Just about a 5 minute walk from the Shinagawa Prince Hotel is the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa. The Takanawa has a Le Connaisseur cigar lounge; while I haven't been there in a while, I remember it as very comfortable and the service impeccable. Enjoy! 3
Nino Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I can also recommend the Takanawa Prince Hotel near Shinagawa train station - fond memories, great hotel !
