Balboa Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Legendary beatles producer known as the fifth beatle passes away at 90 years old
JohnS Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Yes...the Beatles have much to thank for George Martin's contribution to the production of their music. His knowledge of music, especially orchestral music, was evident on many songs. Beginning with Yesterday, I can think of songs such as Eleanor Rigby, Got to Get You into my life, Penny Lane, Stawberry Fields Forever, A Day in the Life, All You Need is Love and I am the Walrus as examples of classic Beatle songs that benefited from George Martin's input. If you want to compare the Beatles' music without George Martin, play the White Album or the two unreleased Glyn Johns Get Back album mixes, when the Beatles were going for a more eclectic, basic sound. Then compare Abbey Road, their final album when George Martin came back to produce (this is highest selling Beatle album). Yes, George Martin was the closest thing to being a 'fifth' Beatle, although personally speaking, I'd argue that engineer Geoff Emerick, working with Martin, contributed greatly too.
joeruby Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Where does the time go. Two out of the 4 remain and Sir George now gone.. RIP, the 'fifth' Beatle
