We are in the run in to the Habanos February 2016 festival.

Has anyone seen the Montecristo 80th Anniversary for retail sale?

While I have tasted some of them they were brought back from last years festival (bloody good cigars they were).

If anyone has an update as to when they will be released (or if they already have been), let me know. I know that PCC have seen none to date.

Cheers!

THe only news I had about it in the last weeks is this one:

Portugal’s Habanos Day Held with Flying Colors

29/12/2015

EMPOR Importação e Exportação, S.A., Exclusive Distributor for Habanos S.A. in Portugal, and Cuba’s Embassy in that country, successfully hosted the 6th Habanos Day in Portugal, with the rollout of Montecristo 80 Aniversario, a much-anticipated vitola. The gala took place at the fashionable Espacio Montes Claros Lisbon Secret Spot Restaurant, in Monsanto, Lisbon.

The list of attendees was made up of over 160 people, including connoisseurs and enthusiasts of the finest cigars worldwide, and the opening words were delivered by Cuban ambassador to Portugal, Mrs. Johana Tablada de la Torre. Some of the boldface names attending the event were Mr. Fernando Dominguez, President of Tabacalera; Mr. Javier Terres de Ercilla, Development Vice President of Habanos S.A.; Mr. Pedro Rocha Ramos, General Manager of Empor S.A., and other executives of the above-mentioned institutions and guest companies.

Several activities were conducted within the framework of the event, such as an outstanding lecture on Habanos’ new products in the course of the year, given by Mrs. Mercedes Perez, Marketing Director of Empor SA. Mrs. Perez was accompanied by Mr. David Gois, Product Manager of Sogrape, who shed light on Cognac Hine Rare VSOP.

Cognac Hine Rare VSOP was chosen to establish an elegant pairing with the Chiado 1864 vitola, Juan López brand’s regional edition for Portugal, as part of a tasting session characterized by the extraordinary quality of products. The pairing was led by Mr. Luis Javier Bosch, Marketing Director of Empor S.A. Participants had an active interaction and enjoyed the habanos.

Other brands and drinks were tasted throughout the event, where the Sir Winston vitola, H. Upmann brand, stood out. Such whiskies as The Glenrothes Vintage 1995, 1998 and 2001, introduced by Mr. Pedro Ramos Rocha, General Manager of Empor S.A., and Mr. Luis David, Sales Manager of Sogrape, also shared the limelight.

The event came to a close with the longest ash competition, with a Petit Coronas Especiales, Partagás brand, playing the leading role, accompanied by Havana Club’s Selección de Maestros Rum. This function was headed by Mr. Gonzalo Villalba, Vice President of Diadema SPA, and Mr. Sergio Valdes, Marketing Director of Havana Club Internacional.

Cigars rolled by two dry-behind-the-ears Cuban cigar makers were doled out during the intermission. Beluga Vodka, Havana Club Mojitos & Daiquiris, Mateus Aragonês 2011 and Mateus Rosé Sparkling, Gin N3 and Vinho do Porto Offley Cocktail were also dished out.

It was a special evening when guests tasted different Habanos from the Montecristo, Partagás, H. Upmann and Juan Lopez brands, seconded by prestigious drinks and Cuban traditional music. By the end of the evening, the winners of the competitions were handed their prizes and Empor Importação e Exportação, S.A. praised the presence and support provided by the sponsors: Sogrape, Havana Club, Aviworld, Joselito, Guamá-Havanatur, Millennium BCP, Iberia, Bell & Ross, Mercado do Queijo, Jaguar, Wine and Mais Alentejo Magazine.

A guy on instagram was selling a bunch of these in the fall. His guy got them straight from Cuba. My co worker gave me one. It's still on my desk somewhere. I guess instagram now sells cigars.

I believe that the Portugal 'launch' was just to support Habanos day and that the general release to the waiting world is still likely to be end of Q1.

LCDH Stuttgart was expecting them end of December and didn't know the pricing yet. Clearly, it hasn't happened.

They handed out some singles in November at the Encuentros Partagas, but no boxes available.

Had a few shared puffs on one. Not bad, but I don't recollect it blowing my socks off either. Rich Monte dry cocoa flavours, dark black coffee, but just seemed like a very rich Monte 2 or Especials to me. Didn't smoke much either.

Granted, I was fairly pissed up when I smoked it. LOL.

Life is full of surprises, huh???
