investandprosper Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I've been away from cigars for close to a year, bedding the mistress that is the tobacco pipe. Pipes have their place, but they cannot replace a fine Cuban cigar. What they have in consistency cannot replace complexity. I'm returning to my first love, and I am so happy to see FOH still going strong. Rob & Smithy's videos brought me here 5 years ago, and it holds a special place in my heart. The corona is one of the finest formats ever rolled, and I'm saddened to see that they are being slowly phased out. Long enough that it demands your attention, but slim enough to delicately deliver the excellent flavor and body we want from a great cigar. Tonight, we visit with the venerable Quai D'Orsay Corona. Rob introduced a lot of us to this cigar a few years ago, drawing attention to a mostly overlooked marca. Piggy gave his seal of approval, coaxing out flavors like chutneyed Christmas desserts and cream. I tried a box, and I was smitten. Truly a dessert cigar. This example from ULA May 14 delivers in spades. Prelight, I get cedar and citrus. Upon lighting, the first puffs are a touch under medium and are bursting with sweet heavy cream and dried fruit. This intensifies through the first third I am just enamored by this cigar. The delicacy and class, delivering savory flavors while not trying to overpower, lingering on the palate just long enough to draw you to the next puff is what you dream of when sitting down to your cigar. The burn is sharp, and the second third delivers toffee, nutmeg, and after cleansing the palate with some water, caramalized sugar with cinnamon and cloves. The sweetness is astounding. I'm glad that I am smoking this cigar alone on a cool, quiet night, because taking even a moment away from it would be an injustice. I'm even having a hard time writing this review! I think I must be hitting a photo limit, but you can see how this cigar is performing. Great burn, not missing a stride in flavor or complexity. I've found that this cigar does not evolve much between the thirds, but intensifies throughout the experience. I'll put the phone down to enjoy the rest of this beautiful journey, and will bid you all a great evening. Getting into the final third, and it's a crescendo of sweet and savory, flaky pastry and sweet caramelized filling. Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for reading ladies and gents, and thank you Rob & the team for this great forum. John Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

CigSid Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Just bought a box of these, glad to see they are a treat... Thanks for the review!
Coolio Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Great review, thanks heaps. I have a box of these en route, and can't wait to hook in to one!
DougB Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Great review, thanks. This is my favorite regular-production cigar, for sure...At 5 years they start to blossom, from my experience.
MrGTO Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Nice review. I have a box I'm trying to leave alone because I know what the reward will be in a few more years.
luv2fly Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Great review. I hope to pull the trigger on these soon.
frenchkiwi Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 yes I concur ;-) I've got a box same date i think. Well selected Rob, as always I was surprised at how well they were smoking straight out of the box. Smooth creamy cedar etc. Having said that you can taste how these "simple" flavours will build into richer ones in another couple of years... the only question to my mind is will they lose a bit of sweetness along the way... many others do. Could be an ageing tradeoff!
dflan82 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Thanks for the review. I have 10 of these from a split earlier this year...you just made me pull one out to smoke this weekend!
foursite12 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Very well-written review, worthy of its subject. Thanks.
habanolover Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 THIS review made me finally go for a box Had done some reading and had them on the list but they never made the cut till this review. I'm looking forward to giving them a try. Thanks for a great review
hiusmax Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Great review. I just discovered the Quai D'Orsay corona a few months ago, love it. My only gripe is that I've read that the flavor really opens up after a few years and I'm not sure I have the patience to sit on the half dozen or so I have for that long! I guess I'll just have to procure more...
investandprosper Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Thanks for the kind words gents. Glad the QdO Corona is getting some love! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Boosted Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Fantastic review! I smoked a QDO Corona ULA AUG 14 about a month ago, and it was one of the best cigars I've had this year. Easily in my top 5 for the year.
Scrubber Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Just finished one from a sampler from our host. Very enjoyable. I got loads of cinnamon notes and some dough/pastry. Not much sweetness in mine. It was like smoking a cinnamon scroll without the sweetness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
