jsummers157 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Had ample time this evening for a big smoke, so went with a Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro, as I've been enjoying a recent box lately. First impressions--extremely impressed by the look of this stick. As you can (hopefully) tell from the photos, the wrapper is gorgeous, a nice even and smooth deep chocolate color with almost no flaws. After clipping the cap, I was thrilled that construction was on par with the wrapper. Perfect resistance and draw and I could tell this was going to be a treat. In the first third, I got the classic DA flavors--so rich and creamy with a little cocoa and leather. Very nuanced changes throughout and was excited by some flavors I get from young Monte 2s (spice? pepper?--I've often seen this categorized as a sign of youth but there was just a few hints of it that brought back pleasant memories of great Monte 2s). Also a little hint of red wine that I often get from these. Would have been a perfect pairing for this cigar. No monumental shifts throughout the next two thirds, but the continued evolution of a great stick with great flavors. I often see the word "classy" associated with this cigar and I can't argue. A real treat. Not a powerhouse in strength and nothing incredibly unique or different, but a very sophisticated cigar that lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I have had great luck with the SUE code over the past year and urge others to grab some of these sticks with this code. I am eager to see what these become with a little age on them.
Rye Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Nice review of a favorite cigar of mine. 5-10 years ageing works wonders on these ones
KJND Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Thanks for the review, I lit one from '12 up over the weekend as well. Very rich smoke that I truly enjoyed. A rewarding DC for the time commitment they command. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
