I am booked for another trip to Cuba in November. This time around I am going to Holguin. While I am sure I can pick up a few boxes of CC at the airport on the way out is there a better place? Trying to decide how many cigars to bring. If there is a reputable place to grab singles (and boxes of course) I would rather buy there. On another note would anyone happen to know if the conversion from CDN to CUC is going to be as bad as the conversion from CDN to USD?

Can't help you with Holguin but CUC is pegged to the USD so it will be as bad. In addition they charge an extra 10% if you are converting USD so better to us other currency for the exchange.

Should be lots of info on this if you search the forum for Holguin. I personally recommend the store in Plaza Las Americas.

Las Americas is in Varadero, not Holguin.

Holguin doesnt have much aside from La Flor De Holguin, which is alright. Right next door is Guardalavaca. There is a small strip mall on pretty much the only main stretch of street called Los Flamboyanas. Has a really good, but tiny, cigar shop. A few years ago, the Atlantico (Club Atlantico?) hotel had a really big shop in the lobby. Not sure how well they take care of things there.

Have fun man!

What hotel are you staying at? Playa Pesquero? Brisas Guardalavaca?

Awesome, thanks for the info Shlomo. I am going to be staying at Playa Pesquero. Looking forward to it.

My mistake, sorry. I was in Holguin in 2003 and stayed at Playa Pesquero. It had a small shop in the lobby which had some basics.

The Las Flamboyanas shop had a decent selection but I recall much of their stock being kept behind the cashier and there was a small walk in humidor.

My advice is to stay away from the Airport as storage conditions there are not good. Lots of mould and some cases of beetles in older boxes is storage temperatures are well above normal.
