jholen Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Cigar: Bolivar Corona Junior Box Code: ULA ABR 14 Date: 7/11/15 Size: Minuto – 4.3” x 42 Visual/Olfactory: Colorado Claro wrapper with some slight pectin wrapper repair, in the middle of the stick an inch or so down from the band. Nice triple cap. Off the wrapper I got some faint wood and touch of earth while the foot gave me a lot of earth. No soft spots and the construction otherwise looks spot on. Pre-light (single v-cut) had a wonderful draw – excited to smoke. Flavors were of a musty basement with a hint of earth. First Third: Straight out of the gate I was met with that straight Bolivar classic flavor. Wonderful. Really enjoying the flavor profile – earth/touch of slight leather/smooth. Really just enjoying this cigar throughout the first third with earth, hint of wood/forest on the forefront of the draw and a creamy slight spice mixed in with the earth and wood. Delicious. Three quarters of an inch in I’m getting a touch of sweetness appearing. Burn is very good and draw is as good as the pre-light. Second Third: Sweet earth, leather, wood, very laid back spice (not able to pinpoint what the spice is) kick on end of retrohale. No real changes, other than some burn issues at the pectin repaired section which lagged behind and required some touch-ups. The flavors are more of a mixed presentation in this portion of the cigar. Final Third: Pectin continues to linger into the beginning of the final third and the first signs of some heat and bitterness rear their head in this portion. Otherwise, the flavors have remained and continue to please the palate and are still distinguishable. Smoking Time: 50 minutes Drink Pairing: Water Strength (Nicotine): Mild – smoked after dinner. Final Thoughts: I’ve certainly smoked the most Bolivars out of my Cuban experience thus far and it has been a wonderful thing! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every single one, some more than others but each has been wonderful… I sometimes feel like a broken record doing a Bolivar review as they just are so pleasing. I think with the larger vitolas you get a bit more complexity or changes in the smokes as they tend to be more dynamic where as this corona junior started off with the characteristic Bolivar flavors on the very first draw, introduced some sweetness towards the halfway point of the first third and never let up. The bitterness likely will clear with a bit of time and these are wonderful. It did give me some pause in regards to whether I’d get these or party shorts as the minuto of choice though I still think I’m in the party short crowd. Definitely will be a box buy at some point though! Final Rating: Would purchase again: box – great smoke, wonderful flavor, in a nice time friendly format. I smoked it fairly slow and could see myself grabbing one to cram in when tight on time. Possible Ratings: Wouldn't smoke again: it just doesn't interest you Would smoke again: experienced possible construction issue and or anomaly/flaw/dud/etc, worth another try to confirm Would smoke again: possible change of storage conditions (temp/RH) might improve the experience Would smoke again: cigar was clearly too young and after letting age it might improve Would smoke again: if received from someone Would purchase again: single or special occasion smoke Would purchase again: in smaller quantities Would purchase again: box Would purchase again: multiple boxes 3
ksblazer Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Nice review and Pic's. They 2014 Boli CJ's are really smoking well and like you mentioned they are one of my favorite minutos. They have been consistantly good over the years. 1
samuelsmithbeer Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Sometimes I'll have a cigar on my lunch break. These are the only ones who when I get back to my workplace that people ask if I have been smoking. A real compliment to this cigar in my opinion. 1
TCContender Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Thank you for the review, very well done. I have a box of these with the same date code, outstanding little cigars. 1

Geo17pip Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I have the Feb 14 and they are great. They remind me of a mini BBF flavor wise. 1
Professor Twain Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Great review. I have these stockpiled, am currently smoking 2005s. They get even better with age. See if you can go deep on these and set some aside, you'll be glad you did. 2

Professor Twain Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 How would you describe them with age? How do they develop? These, like all Bolis, keep the earth and leather, but they lose the harsh edge. They get smooth and rich. To me Bolis are akin to whiskey, they can taste great young but aging adds a special touch. The key is to buy multiple boxes... smoke one, set one aside. Repeat. After a while you'll have aged stock to smoke. 1
