Don't answer that.

I currently have a small desktop, a large desktop and a large Coolidor. And constantly looking for a good quality affordable cabinet or time to make one as I do a bit of cabinet making.

If more storage comes my way i really want to fill the small desktop with just PLMC and have this as my daily. I had 120 in there last year and it wasn't even half full. So thinking 200 would be a good place to start.

Anyone have experience with a single type of stick storage? Any downsides?

I can't think of any reason that you couldn't have a dedicated desktop humidor for one type of cigar. As a matter of fact, I've always found that some of the older gentlemen I used to smoke with always had their "one go to cigar". My grandfather as an example always smoked old school La Gloria's and never cared to try different cigars. Plus, all the old school businessmen with desktop humi's in there office tended to have only one type of stick inside.

I think if you have a great go to daily humidor that you can toss 4 boxes of a given stick inside then go for it!!! I love variety, but I too like to have one go to stick that I'm DEEP on so I always have some. Then again, if I had the money to convert an 8'x10' room in my house into a humidor I'd probably be DEEEEEEP on everything haha.

Good luck,

Seth

Hmmm, one cigar to smoke everyday...never thought about that...besides boredom, I can't see another down side. However, from my experience, you have picked a really good stick in the PLMC to give it a tryok.gif

As long as you don't mind maintaining a separate humidor I don't see the storage stradegy as much different than a giant 200 ct cab of PLMC's (if they produced such a thing)... except for one thing. Personally, I like mine to stay in the original boxes so I can choose by box code. I've got 2 boxes of PLMC's right now. One from MAR 09 and one from ABR 14. Both good. But, no surprise, the 09's are better. Seeing as fresher ones are easier to come by, the aged ones get doled out at a slower rate.

As for a daily single-type smoke, nothing says you're locked in just because you have healthy stock of them. You do have the big coolidor or soon-to-be cabinet that'll be full of other options if you bore of your daily or want a change-up as the day progresses.

The PLMC makes for a lovely morning smoke with coffee, so I do think it makes a lot of sense as a steady-diet choice.

Thanks for your input gents. When I get more storage this will likely soon follow. Last year I did something similar before I got a Coolidor and found after a few months they tasted great, problem was by then there were bugger all left. Been thinking about this ever since.

Going deep certainly has it's benefits. It would be great to consistently have at your fingertips a 5 year old stock of your favorite stick, and have it in such quantities that you didn't have to ration them out. A 200 count humi, with another 200-600 sticks of same in coolerdor storage would allow you to keep the humi full of a consistent year or two.

Then back this up with another 600-800 sticks of other marcas and vitolas for variety. Basically half your stock goes into a deep collection of one stick. Sounds like a great alternative.

I have more Punch Punch than any other single stick, but they're all over the place in terms of years and box codes, so practically each one is a shrinking commodity requiring rationing. If I bought 200 of the '09s, 200 of the '13s, etc. I wouldn't feel about to run out. Interesting thought.
