Guest Robo
So, I'm walking on King St. this afternoon and, as it happens, pass right in front of F. Correnti cigars. For those who don't know, F. Correnti hand rolls cigars in Toronto using imported Cuban tobacco. Now, I've heard about F. Correnti cigars since forever but I've never had enough interest to give them a visit. Well, I was right there… I had to stop in. I walked upstairs and into an intoxicating, tobacco aroma filled factory to find a gaggle of torcerdors rolling cigars. In short, I bought 3 of their Robustos, hand rolled that day. Construction: Seems under-filled as a pinch on the foot is quite spongy but this might be due to it being super wet having being rolled that day. Wrapper is colorado-claro and blotchy with a bit of sheen. Head of the cigar is square and does not punch easily as the tobacco stretches. Overall, it looks amateurish, definitely not what I've become accustomed to. Cold Draw: Good draw. Very green and raw, earthy, herbaceous flavour of fresh cut grass with dirt. Reminds me of arugula salad. First Third: This is a young, fresh cigar. Light to medium with predominately herbaceous vegetal flavours of freshly cut sod. There's some leather flavour and a touch of spice but dominated by fresh grass. There's a raw earthy aftertaste and a short finish. Not a ton of smoke but not too little either. So far, not my cup of tea, but not too bad either (better than i thought, TBH). Second third: All of a sudden this cigar turns more interesting. Leather turns predominant as the smoke turns fuller and creamier. Vegetal flavours are still there however the fresh cut grass turns to dry grass. Earthy aftertaste turns into musty leather with toasted tobacco, but still short. Nice. Final third: Leather continues sharing predominance with dry vegetal grass. There's still a little spice in the background that I would describe as nutmeg more than anything. Freshly shaved pencil wood joins in the flavour profile making for a nice smoking experience. I'm actually impressed! Final Impressions: The start of this cigar was dominated by wet, freshly cut sod, which is not my favourite in flavour profile. However, This cigar became more flavourful and complex as it went on. The wet grass turned to dry grass, and leather, which I really enjoy, was plentiful in the second and third. Joined by the wood, which i also enjoy, made for a good finish. This ended up being a good cigar, but not great. 86 P.S.: I really enjoyed hand selecting my cigars in an aromatic, tobacco smell filled factory right in front of the rollers. That combined with the good smoke made for a great cigar experience. Rob
ChanceSchmerr
Nice review, mate. I don't mind a Correnti now and again. I picked up three of their Lanceros last August on my way over here, have had them sitting in my small desktop NC humidor since then. I figured they needed a bit of time before smoking - like you say - they are so wet when you get 'em freshly rolled. Will probably light one up in a couple weeks to see how they are. Optic101
Nice review, would be interesting to hear how the second one is smoking after some rest.
Rye
Great review! I was given 3 from a friend last summer after the Mega herf, and found similar tastes in the fresh ones. I have another robusto, and a corona left that I will have to smoke soon and see how they taste once they're at my preferred smoking moisture content
Orion21
I had been to the shop when I visited Toronto a few years ago. I picked up 3 robustos as well and smoked 2 in quick succession. They made quite an impression on me. I think I rated the cigars a 10 . . . . . . . . . out of
