dougincanada Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I know this will insult cigar purists, but under certian circumstances I will dip a cigar in rum. I wonder what others think? If you dip do you use wine, rum, coffee or something else? There are a few reasons I will dip a cigar. If its been given to me to smoke and its exceptional dry. If its a local Cuban fake, I sometimes buy them in Cuba if they look decent. I figure the rum sterilizes it a bit since I have no idea who rolled it. And finally, if its begining to unravel. I will put a few drops of rum on a plate and roll the cigar on it. For a cigar thats begining to unravel this method really does a good job for fixing a loose wrapper. If you roll it in the proper direction. Its much less discusting than licking and gobing all over your cigar. Regards, Doug
Mckucci Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I use to buy toscano's (NC) and dip them in cognac... However, I have not done this in years..
rigby Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Churchill himself used to do this... I never do it to a good cuban... but to cheap, damaged or dry cigar, I've used red wine, rum and bourbon. all work nicely...
DrunkenMonkey Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Bill Clinton was reported to have enjoyed this practice as well. 2
headstand Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Just got back from Varadero where I was introduced to a twist on the dip. Not saying I approve, just reporting: waiter at the Waco Club offers our party an after supper cigar (this I approve) then comes back with brandy of honey and rum. Dip in honey then the rum. Traditional he says. Anybody else hear about this practice?
