Guyman1966 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS LATELY? (_ _ _ Emergency FAIL) We had an event yesterday that ended up being educational with little expense. We had a small fire/smoke event in our kitchen. No serious damage, everyone is OK! However, when the _ _ _ panic button for FIRE was pushed – nothing happened. After calling 9-1-1 the Broward Fire Department arrived quickly and neutralized the problem. As they inspected the house an interesting question was asked… “why didn’t the smoke detectors go off”? Our smoke detectors are provided by _ _ _ Security. They failed and the panic button failed. When I called _ _ _ they checked our system and said everything was working OK! As suggested by the Fire Department, we purchased smoke detectors from Home Depot and installed them last night. Needless to say, I have little faith in _ _ _ Even if they check your system and say it works… it might make sense to spend $5 bucks and install a smoke alarm back up. The Fire Dept. said that if this event happened at night, it could have been disastrous. Thank you Broward County Fire and Police for a quick, efficient and professional response.
DoubleDD Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Glad everything is OK. It's weird that the alarm didn't work. I also have _ _ _ which makes me think now too. I already have smoke and CO detectors but when you pay for a service you expect it to work. 1
CUBANO Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I'm glad everything turned out well. You might want to call __ __ __ and have the detectors inspected, or change company. 1
jdo2110 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 As a firefighter I can tell you that this is one of those things that gets overlooked too often, and I've seen devastating results from it. Guyman1966, I'm glad to hear that you are all okay and that the damage was minimal. And while I'm talking safety, please check your lint catchers in your dryers. Can't tell you how many folks have lost their houses because of the lint build up catching on fire. Little things bite us in the but sometimes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

Squarehead Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I hate hardwired smokedetectors without battery backup. In case of a poweroutage they're useless.Got all new detectors(hardwired w.bat.backup)and change the batteries once a year at a spezific date. When we moved in our new house inDec.last year I found that one smokedet. wasn't hooked up at all. Also by law we have to have CO2 detectors.I got 3 of them. Anyways, it's good to hear that everthing turned out allright in your place.
