I've been tasting single malt whisky as an interest so to say for the past six months and I love it, just reading about different whiskies makes my mouth water.

One thing I don't know too much about is the areas where each of them is from and what flavour profiles those areas are renowned for.

One thing I've learned about my likes and tendencies towards whiskies is that I much prefer the fruity floral profile than the smoky peaty style, so with that in mind, lets say I'm doing a search on an online bottle shop website and I'm to search by region, are the fruitier whiskies from the speyside region?

If someone can paint a picture of where the different flavours come from, I'd be more in the know about what I'm looking at spending coin on.

As a general tendency, yes.

But it's not that easy as nowadays you find peaty/smoky Highlanders/Speysiders (Benromach for instance)

and unpeated Islay like Bruichladdich.

If you like fruity and floral I'd recommend Glengoyne (any)

Bruichladdich 10 and also Isle of Arran 10 and 14 years,

but the best advice I can provide is to

read on Serge Valentine's Whiskyfun.com as well as Ralfy.com (check the vid reviews on youtube)

Cheers and enjoy,

Alex
