El Presidente Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I was asked this morning to explain how I photograph cigars for LFTH. When photographing Pretty easy. I photograph on the spot in the warehouse using my Samsung S4 Active phone. It really is an open box and shoot exercise...maybe 15 seconds. Editing I use a web program (Gimp). Brighten (warehouse is dark)/sharpen etc, reduce post size and upload. less than a minute. When photographing cigars in the office for print material I would use the Canon MK II and some great lenses. unfortunately I don't have the luxury in the warehouse and have to rely on the mobile phone and hope it isn't too blurry. Apologies if they are not up to standard but I haven't the time to set up a proper shot when picking stock. A fair indication is all they are .
AndrewNR Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Never disliked any of the LFTH pictures.. Always find myself squealing with joy at them.. All your other photos were so great they were a big part of what lured me here originally with your beautifully written reviews. 1
Rye Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Nothing wrong with your pics at all, and I'm thrilled when my boxes (and boxes, and boxes) come in and look even better than the pic posted. Perhaps a model to hold the boxes in Vanna White fashion would appease the masses?
rckymtn22 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Been here for almost 6 years and have no issues with any of the pictures taken for LFTH or LFTW. They were even okay when Smithy was taking them!
polarbear Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Pics look fine to me In fact, thanks to you and your pics I now have some idea of what PSP cigars look like
Smalls Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 The photos looks fine to me. However, your experience and description of the quality of the cigars are the most important things to me. Photos are just a bonus.
Fuzz AI Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Been here for almost 6 years and have no issues with any of the pictures taken for LFTH or LFTW. They were even okay when Smithy was taking them! Pfft. Smithy took one pic of every box and re-used them over and over again. He just adjusted the brightness and contrast each time! I'm waiting for today's newspaper to be shown in front of the box to prove ala hostage proof of life!
ArtemusGordon Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Love having the pics and they all look great to me!
PapaDisco Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 My iPhone pics of cigars are never satisfactory but your warehouse pics are always sharp. How far away do you shoot from?
El Presidente Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 My iPhone pics of cigars are never satisfactory but your warehouse pics are always sharp. How far away do you shoot from? As close as possible to fill the frame. I use the sharpen function of Gimp to remove the blur
tmc123 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Always love the sheen you get on the wrappers, looks as if every cigar is brimming with oils. Pretty good for phone pics though, my iPhone doesn't take that great of photos but it might be the shooter screwing the shot.
Larsy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Your pics are what push me over the edge! Cant resist after seeing pictures
