Dear Ken,

as far as I know there has been ups and downs at Bowmore

sometimes regards the quality of new make spirit, sometimes the selection of casks -

batches from the 1960's to '70/80's differ a great deal apparently as even a long maturation is sometimes not enough to mask the flaws as you sure know.

However, if it is one of the good batches it should be excellent though :-)

Would be useful to find out the production date (probably this is a vintage version anyway)

and then consult somebody like Serge Valentine (whiskyfun.com).

Hope that helps,

cheers, Alex

On some bottlings there is a 3-4 digit number, sometimes a letter/nr. code in quite small print

on the bottom or near bottom, hardly visible at times.

If you can find that one, you could even inquire bowmore distillery directly about production date.

However, the maltmaniacs (Serge Valentine again)

gave an early 1970/1993 version a quite good rating ;-)

Tried a Bowmore 25 last year, wasn't overly impressed with the palate.

Most agree that the 21 was a very good expression of Bowmore,

older is not always better...
