I will be the first to say we are all entitled to our own opinion ,that being said I think some of your comments are short sited and sound like you lack experience with Domestic cigars. I have smoke

If I must smoke something available in a US store it is usually a Padron.

Oh, and just saw this. That My Father #4 is amazing..

I like Padron also.

Aston is quite good and reasonably priced.

I personally go for Casa Magna which are usually around $12 each CDN.

Not to bash this thread, but this is a Habanos forum...I only mention this because I feel most NC's can't touch a well rounded CC (that includes Fuente and Padron as well) So stick with the Cubans brother.

To answer your question though:

If I'd pick up a stick to try in a good BM in the US, right now it would have to be a Tatuaje. Pete Johnson has been producing some decent blends as of late and they are very reasonably priced.

I find Padron to be a good, consistant cigar...Nothing mind blowing, but you pretty much know what you're going to get with them. The Family Reserve #45 is a good smoke. A little expensive, but worth a try IMO.

Fuente... Too expensive, period. There is no reason for a Super Belicoso to be upwards of $25.00 a stick. I must say, I've had a few good Fuentes here and there but my general consensus is that people pay for the rarity...I'd rather spend my money on Cohiba.

I have smoked cigars for 15 years and can tell you this, there was a time when there were no places like this to get Cubans and I had no choice but Domestics. My rotation now is about 50/50.

Pete Johnson has been making wonderful cigars at a fair price for more than 10 years.

Pardon cigars like most domestics have lots of mediocre cigar.,but there are lots of gems like the 1964 principe Maduro and the 1926 #35 natural for about 10$ that are complex and are always have perfect construction.

Fuente has the Hemingway series and though I'm not a fan of the classic and larger sizes I will say this the signature cammoroon and Maduro are exceptional ,the short story ,best seller ,and work of art in camoroon and Maduro are verrrrry good and are reasonable in price at 9$ or less. The Don Carlos is also a great line that age wounderfuly for under 10$. The VSG made by Fuente is also a very good cigar for 10-15$

Now I think that there are many in the states that post on this site and to question why a member wants info on Nc's is kind of rude. That's my .02 cents ymmv.

^^^^i absolutely agree with the above poster. I love my CCs but sometimes I want a change of pace and NCs offer something different. Sure there are some horrible NCs but there are some diamonds in the rough out there too. I concur with the poster above's recommendations, some good choices there. I also like the lancero format and there are very few CC lanceros that are reasonably priced. Pepin's My Father #4 is a fine cigar for the price.

I quite like NC's

They have a different profile than most CC's and I find they are a good change of pace cigar

I split my smoke between 50% CC's and 50% NC's

A good Go-To NC for me is anything from Tatuajes Brown Label line (The lancero is especially good) and the Illisione Rothchilds.

My go to breakfast smoke it the Tatuaje PCR.

Also look at Drew Estates Nica Rustica line. A Connecticut Broadleaf Toro sized cigar for under $7 a stick (plus any state taxes) that is exceptionally good

Point taken on the the rudeness, I'll agree. I may have come off a tad strong with my point of this being a Habanos forum. That's my opinion and I'll stick by it.

Secondly, just because my generalizations of a few well known domestic brands were brief does not mean I lack experience within the NC realm. Most of the cigars you mentioned I have either puffed on or are still sitting in my humidor...Especially the Hemingway series, Ashton VSG's, many 1926 and 64's, as well as other marcas which I shouldn't even have to mention based on your assumption. Being from the states as well, I've smoked plenty and plenty of domestic cigars my friend...and I couldn't agree with you more that up until now, or a several years now, there was limited access to acquiring CC's. The beauty of it is that now you can. With the amount of NC's I've smoked, and of course enjoyed many, I still believe that the NC market is flooded with just too many brands, vitola's, and riff raff to sort through. There's just too much nonsense involved a low quality product across the board. This is my opinion, that's how I view it based on how much I've smoked and how much is literally out there. You can't make the same general consensus about CC's right now, maybe at one point in time yes...

So, don't ever assume anything. As I said, there are plenty of domestic brands that produce quality sticks. But compared to how many there is to choose from, it is a small percentage IMO.

Plus, now that you can get Cubans, I'll take one over a NC 9 times out of 10.

Salute,

Daniel

If it must be an NC, I typically reach for a fuente...the usual suspects, Hemingway, Don Carlos, my local shop still has some Un-named Reservas which I quite like. Occasionally I'll try something new, but I probably smoke 98% CCs and toss in an NC when the mood strikes. My biggest problem with NCs lately has been the drive for HUGE RGs and the super -duper-double-triple-extra ligero sticks. innocent.gif I am pretty sensitive to a big buzz (you can call me a lightweight...I accept it), so I prefer Mild to medium strength cigars.

Oliva, La Aroma de Cuba, Perdomo in that order for reasonably priced. CAO makes some decent stuff too. I like Padron but I can't taste the money. Not crazy about MF or AF. I smoke mostly small rg so finding a good NC 42 or under is an issue. I like sweet, med to med-full tobacco.

Not that you can find them everywhere, the Liga Privada line is my favorite NC. And if you couldn't tell, the LP 9 is my go to!

I dont see any rules prohibiting the discussion of non Cubans in the forum. If this was a forum based in the US and members are not allowed to talk about Cuban cigars then i would understand.

Never said anything about breaking any rules... I already acknowledged this in an earlier post as it was an opinion.

Anyone that hasn't smoked a Liga Privada T52 because they "only smoke Habanos" is missing out. My palate has shifted dramatically toward CC's in the last year, but I still love a number of NC's.

Illusione Epernay

Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero

La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor

Oliva V (get a few years of age on these things and they are unbeatable)

Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown

Regius (the core line is very good. The seleccion Orchant I would smoke every day for the rest of my life, and it's right there with the HdM Epi 2 and other CC staples. Unfortunately only 200 boxes were released. I have 3.)

Tatuaje Noella & something we call a "nicorona"- a corona sized house blend of a cigar store in MN made with Nicaraguan tobacco.
