bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I keep my cigars in two glass jars. They have been at about 70 degrees. I took out the pillows to get the temp down to 65. Now I have nothing in with the sticks and it still reads 68-70. What do I do to get the temp down? Thanks
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 are you talking about humidification pillows? They don't affect the temperature.
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 yes. I was using them as a humidification device. Now there's nothing in there but cedar and the sticks. Are they safe?
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 At 68-70%RH they should be fine but 65 would be better(for Cubans).
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 right but how do I get the temp down. Theres nothing in there with them now but the cedar. Thanks
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 If you dont have a room with air con then you need something like a wine fridge. You can also freeze your cigars when you get them to kill any eggs, theres a few tutorials on the web about doing this.
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 That's not what I'm looking for. I need to know how to get the temp down. Will that occur from them not having beads pillows etc? Or is there something else I need to be doing.
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 the beads have nothing to do with the temperature the beads only controll the humidity so theres two separate issues
thunderdan11 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 The only way to lower the temp is to put them in an area that has a lower ambient temp. It is just like a house or a car, the only way to get the temp down is to cool the area. That can only be done either putting them in a fridge that is turned up high so as to not get sticks too high, lower the temp of the room you are storing them in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 OK that's what I've been referring to. The humidity temp has been at 70 with the pillow and is now back up to 70 without. The question is how do I get a 65 read on my hygrometer? Thanks
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 If you mean your trying to bring down the RH percentage dry out you beads so they can absorb more moisture.
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 I took everything out of the jar except the sticks and the cedar. it still reads 70.
thunderdan11 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Do you know what your rh or humidity level is in your room where you are keeping them? If it is lower than 70 percent then You can leave the top open yo let som of the moisture out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
krs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 It might take a while for the beads to work but if its been raining and the seal on your humidor isnt the best they might not work.
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 no I don't but I'll try that. I was wondering if the sticks would dry out without some sort of humidification
Louich Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Buy heartfelt beads at 65% and do not hydrate them. They should absorb the extra 5% RH you want gone.
bossman3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 OK I'll try that. its winter here so the heat is on. I left the top open and it dropped to 60 fast.
stogieluver Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Man! I'm the one who's confused here. I'm glad you guys got that worked out!
Louich Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Pleasure. Do not forget that temperatures has a great impact on the relatuve humidity.
fookite Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 OK that's what I've been referring to. The humidity temp has been at 70 with the pillow and is now back up to 70 without. The question is how do I get a 65 read on my hygrometer? Thanks A temperature is a numerical measurement of hot and cold.
