PaulP Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Those were the days, but times have changed. Current employer Christmas party this Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 at the office. Catered lunch. No booze. They actually sent out a memo stating that anyone who left after the party would be docked vacation time.
Duxnutz Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Every layover would be like a christmas party wouldn't it dux? More sparse than in the past but every now and then the stars align and everyone gets together. I had Thanksgiving in the States and a large chunk of Ramadan o.s. this year, which turned out interesting. Recently we ran into some Aussies at a venue who were on a luxury chartered jet tour round the world. They were good value and stuck in the year 1999 (partying like it was). Interestingly enough, my chick works for a medical company that threw a week long 50th anniversary o.s that was insane. Flew partners out, paid for food/accomodation and open bar every night. So to answer the original question, I think large privately held companies still know how to have fun!
dicko Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I was born in the wrong generation. Every Xmas party I've been to across maybe 5-6 years in a couple of industries the bosses have put on food but buy your own drinks. Very boring and stingy.
oliverdst Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I never THE party in the office. Usually the parties were somewhere else, usually in a employee house.
AlohaStyle Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Haha! My first job out of college ruined me for life when it came to Christmas parties. The job itself was a glorifed white collar sweat shop, but they knew how to throw parties. They flew all the employees of the company (14 cities) to New York City and put us up at the Palace Hotel and threw a great party. Needless to say I don't remember too much of it... LOL
sk00ts Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 My Christmas parties are great. Around 40 people and their plus ones. Great meal, all the booze you can drink. Only thing we have to pay for is a hotel room, which is only $50 as they cover the rest
CanuckSARTech Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Sadly, it can't and doesn't happen to me in my current line of work. Or ever in any of my previous jobs. I'm a pretty boring guy.
