zdpa Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hello from NZ ... yea better watch my back now ay Got into cigars this year when my friend gave me a monte for my bday. Decided to try other cigars before I tried his nice one... now my desktop humidor is full ... and there's a coolidor in the making Looking forward to my first summer with cigars! Any other kiwis on this message board? btw, regarding the coolidor... do they have to be airtight? should I be using vaseline along the edges to make it airtight or some airflow is ok? anyone use a fan in theirs?
kiwicrusaders Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hello there, welcome to th best forum available around cigars. One would never think its Australian....yep you got it, I'm a kiwi ! Will PM you.
zdpa Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Nice! I did a search for New Zealand intoductions (probably searched the wrong thing) and the last one was in 2008! haha and your right... took me a while to realise the video reviews on youtube were related to this site haha
Brickhouse Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Welcome to FOH. I would say the coolidor needs to be air tight. Depending on your environments relative humidity (RH) that can pose a large problem in regards to humidity swings if you don't have a tight seal. I haven't heard of the Vaseline as a sealant. Most coolers have an airtight seal. Having said that, a fan inside the coolidor is recommended to promote air and humidity circulation.
Squarehead Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Welcome to the FOH forum and happy smokes.
guideright Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Welcome - to FOH - nothing but good things to say about NZ,
stogieluver Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Welcome! As to the coolidor and the seal, I have a plastic box with a lid that locks on all sides and the seal is a foam rubber type seal. I wouldn't say that's airtight, but it is probably as airtight as most desktop humidors. I ordered the box off the internet, but saw it at Wal Mart a week later. It's working very well. I have several boxes of CC's in it and the six inch heartfelt beads tube maintains a steady 65% at 72 df with no problems or maintenance whatsoever.

Will be getting onto this little project next week. So far humidities been between 65-70 for the boxes I have sitting outside... though the swings are concerning me a little. Welcome - to FOH - nothing but good things to say about NZ, Great place. Gimme a shout if your ever over ay. Welcome! Ah nice, I've been using a tupperware container with a heartfelt tube and its working without a problem... just gonna need a much bigger box and might look into kitty litter which I was using for my desktop humidor. Thanks for the info! Have you been using a fan?
