I just joined and posted an intro so I hope this thread is in the right place.

Partagas P2 are one of my fav sticks but I have had a couple lately that tasted...well...strange. I don't know how to describe the flavour really, kind of musty I guess? The only other time I tasted anything at all like it was once when I had a plugged Siglo 1. All of them were stored the same so that isn't a variable in it.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I wish I could describe it better.

Sure it's not a humidor issue? I've had sticks taste a bit musty when the humi's got a bit wetter.

Could have been rolled with leaves that weren't properly fermented.

I find you get "off" sticks in all Marca's and vitola, especially with the v.popular sticks... and can be due to any number of reasons, the quality of the tobacco.. like dicko already mentioned how well its been fermented, the age of the cigar or lack of, the construction (i find construction can play a huge part on how a cigar tastes) how they have been stored and so on etc..

To me its just part n parcel of smoking cigars.. not all of them are going to be great, and with all the not so good ones it makes the times when you do get a great one that ever bit more special.

I bought a box of ten that has a July 06 date. It tasted the same all the way through the stick. It did leave a cacoa aftertaste though. I'm hoping that the next nine are better.

The only musty P2 I've smoked was in Havana fr an overly humid humidor however your post reminded me of the 2012's I've had on the shelf since they didn't smoke well at all and I must say I'm not sure it's the 7 months or the zacapa solera but this P2 is delivering much like my previous box. When all else fails let em sit!
