The weather here in the North Eastern U.S. has warmed up a bit and last night was the first evening one could comfortably sit outside without a coat and enjoy a longer smoke.

The misses and I opened some Polish beers and enjoyed a Hoyo from my agingbox, I do not have the box code but could look it up (I have all those boxes somewhere) but the cigar was labeled as November 2009.

These are beautiful cigars to look at and hold, just thin enough for a comfortable hold and long enough for a hour or so of enjoyment.

This stick started a little harsh but I could tell it just needed a few minutes to warm up

and it was going to be good. Lots of woody flavors to start but then for the first time

I really got that 'dried fruit' flavor coming in at the first third. Hear so much about that

profile (Smitty!) and there it was.

The mid point on this smoke is where it really shined, smooth, smokey and an ever slightly changing profile cruising through. Very Nice. Towards the end of the second third it began to have construction issues, but the taste was still golden.

The wrapper was slowly coming off but the flavor didnt let up.

This cigar was paired with the Polish beer and Bacardi 8 Year, and the cool spring air and candles made for a fine smoke so far.

In the end the Hoyo lost its wrapper but we smoked it to the end. Why the stick decided to fall apart I'm not sure, RH and temp were fine, maybe it got a little too much travel in my aging box and was just to0 delicate to hold up. This is not a 'manly, beefy strong' cigar and almost asked to be handled gently.

But flavorwise it held up and I'm glad we chose this smoke last evening.

90/100 even with construction issues. I didnt mind.

Great review! Thanks for the read. I love these cigars. Glad it still smoked well for you despite those construction issues.

Thanks for the review. I've had some very nice ones as well from 03. Just recently I bought a box from 2000, that seem a bit more subtle and I havent decided Wat to think of yet

Great review! I've never had one buy I have two sitting in the humidor that I am definitely looking forward to trying! Hopfully I enjoy them as much as you did but hopefully mine keeps it's wrapper!

Nice review! I have some 03' in my humidor but the 2 first ones I had were not great. Construction sucked, draw was awful... :(

Sorry to hear that, I have 2 left from my box and all were great, no issues at all (until this 'losing the wrapper' episode).

This one had a crack down near the band and tho we were carefull, I think the passing back and forth between us may have aggravated the issue. But the enjoyment I get from these overrode any 'deconstruction'.

Hi Stargazer,

Great review, and thank you for sharing. This is one of my favorite cigars. I have a cab from '03 which is just sweat and subtle. I am awaiting the arrival of recent production to see how they compare.

Thank you,

Curtiss
