I've heard good things about Fundadores from 2001, does anyone have any experience with the 2002 production please?

Yes..had a fantastic May 02 50 cab a few years ago and blew right through them...better than the 98s I currently have...I think 02 was the last year they were made at El Laguito...

I've been pondering on the idea of buying a box of Fundadores forever. Bought Lanceros, love them. Heard that Fundadores have dropped in quality. Is this true? How do they compare to the Lanceros?

02 = deliciousness. Wish I had boxes of these, particularly in the 50 cab

I think the quality of the current fundys are quite good IMHO.

I have had excellent Fundadores from every year of production. Top 5 cigar for me. As with most long & skinnies, use a trusted vendor. A hand-picked box can go a long way.

If you are looking at 5X5 petacas, look again, tourist packaging does not survive for that long

Against the popular belief, OR release of Trinidad Fundadores was discontinued in 1998.

I'm confused....what do you mean here? The original release was in 1998 of the commercially available release. Are you talking the diplomatic ones finished up then? Maybe, but the original commercial release in 1998 still had the original recipe, and continued so until early/mid 2003, when the factory production changed as well as the band changed.
