Reevzy Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hello, I've just recently bought my first humidor, called the Berkshire 75. It only has two dividers and no top shelf. I don't know the importance of separating all your cigars so different brands aren't sitting on top of each other and running the risk of "permeating flavours", but I plan on doing that anyway just for the purpose of organisation. Are all cigar boxes made of cedar? Can you cut up the lid of a Monte box and sand and shape it to fit in as a divider in your humidor? To me, it just looks like ply, but I dunno, can you use it?

No risk. Just throw 'em in.

Use a good mask when cutting, sanding, etc....the dust is poisonous and / or carcinogenic.
Reevzy Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Well if the permeating flavour thing is a bit of a myth (flavoured cigars excluded) then I guess there's no harm in just throwing them all into a pile. Still early days for me and this humidor, plenty of room to go. I know a lot of people say just buy another humi in preparation of what's to come but I'm gonna have to scale things back. Although it's much more enjoyable than smoking cigarettes (which I've well and truly given the flick) it is a monstrously expensive hobby to keep up. I've got a box of 10 Monte 2's which I plan to sit on for a while, a Cohiba Sublime and a Monte GR which I'll be smoking on my 30th in a couple of weeks, other than that, this humidor will have to be left begging for a while.
Colt45 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 In desktops I do try and keep like cigars together, but like yourself, for oganizational / access reasons. I've never been overly concerned about, for lack of better term, characteristic migration, and have put unlike cigars together when lack of space dictated. I'd agree that the thin cedar sheets might be a good option for dividers.
