frito Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Hiya eveyone, i've always love the smell of cigars. Whenever I pass-by any cigar shop, i'm sure to go into their walk-in humidor and have a look at what they got and savour the aroma before I step out. From there I started out with some cheap cigars and progressively to RYJ and a couple more mid-range cigars. From there onwards I realised that If i paid a little more I could get a much better smoke. My next try was a cohiba and davidoff , the cohibas really set the hook. The aroma, smoke, taste etc. thinking of it just make me wana smoke one right now. Cigars in Singapore is way overpriced, a stick of cohiba siglo 4 is about us$40-55 in the shops. So i've recently ordered a box of partagas d2 to try out how much is the import duties. If my order goes through, i'm looking to stockup with quite a huge load in the office. Best time to smoke a cigar. -While working late in the office. -With red wine, I personally feel that the cigar brings out the oak flavour in the wine. -In the hot tub. Goals!! To make my office smell like a walk in humidor..... HAhaha p.s I'm still trying to pair cigars with single malts whisky and cognac. I have yet to find a good combination. I would not mind some inputs on this from any seniors.
Tan1801 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Welcome to FoH. I think you should amend your goals to "To make me office into a walk in humidor" .
Squarehead Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Welcome to the FOH forum and happy smokes.
Chelsea8 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Welcome mate! Tobacco tax is $362 per kg. Without using an Import Agent, you are only allowed to bring in max. 400 gms of cigars per shipment per day. GST is then added to the tobacco tax and cost of cigars, for you to pay. Hope that helps.
frito Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Magste; I'll lookout for those few bottles when i'm at changi next time round. Chelsea; thanks for the info, you brought in cigars into singapore before?
Chelsea8 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 firto, yes I have bought alot, that way. Customs are vigilant and must be scanning every parcel that comes in. They will send you a letter asking you to collect your parcel and bring a copy of the shipment invoice. They give you the option of rejecting the parcel or paying all relevant duties/taxes by cash, nets, credit cards, etc. If you are bringing in the bigger vitolas like monte 2's, a box of 25 will be about the limit of 400gms.

Chelsea8 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 There is no minimum when it concerns alcohol or tobacco. GST applies on top of the tobacco tax. Officially, even if you import 1 cigar for say $10, they could still add the tobacco tax and GST on it. By the way, it is best you just have cigars in your overseas order. Should you have accessories etc, in the same order/parcel as tobacco, the GST applies for all items, even if the total value is below the normal GST free allowance for non-duty items.

Thanks for the tip to split up the accessories!

Chelsea8 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Sounds like you are going to have a good smoke. The only time my order was sent to be direct/no customs detention, was when I didn't order boxes and it was a small order that came in humipaks.

Although I was in a rush, I went straight to the coffeeshop and lit 1 up. Could not finish in time and I had to spent the last part smoking while driving. Was kinda feeling high and stoned when I got to my clients place. ~lessoned learnt. Never light up a smoke when in a rush. I'm now aiming for a box of cohiba maduro genios
