Shooter Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 After fighting a nasty bout of sinutus since just before Thanksgiving--and not being able to enjoy a cigar for the past two weeks--I was elated to wake this morning feeling like I've finally whipped this illness thanks to a prescription of antibiotics. The sun was poking through and it got up to near 60 degrees here in Northern VA so I thought I'd reward myself with a nice, long-overdue cigar. Out of the 'dor came a beautiful '02 CLE Cohiba Coronas Especial. A bit of lunch and time to torch-up. Voila! Ignition but NO TASTE WHATSOEVER!! Now this cigar has been one of the most stellar in my collection and instantly it hit me that the reason I wasn't tasting anything was not 'cuz the cigar was off--but rather, my tastebuds and "sniffer" were not working! I suspect it was the antibiotics. Can you imagine the disappointment of lighting something so special and not being able to either smell or taste it!? LOL I was VERY depressed! I felt like running out and finding some stranger walking their dog--who hopefully would indulge now and then in a good cigar and offering what would probably be the most fantastic cigar they've ever smoked! As it was, I simply tried to relax and recall how good they "were." I'm telling you--it was horrible. I might as well have rolled a piece of newspaper up and smoked it. ZERO taste or smell. I watched the razor-edge burn get lower and felt the perfect draw--but that was it--period. Painful as it was, I eventually chucked-it with a good half left. LESSON LEARNED---be sure your palate and smelling-ability are up to par before lighting up!:-|

dysfunctional Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Oh man...that sucks big time..... hope your taste buds recover soon....
habanohal Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I went through that 2 months ago. 14 days of hell. Makes you go nuts, especially when I am use to smokeing 4 a day. What to do with your time then?:-(
Ginseng Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Hi Shooter, Yup, that's happened to me as well. Sometimes I find that even regular decongestants and such can affect my sniffability. I hope your next one will be better. Wilkey
ironman Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 This time of year colds and the flu really screw up a nice relaxing smoke after work:-(
Loki Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 What a sad story.:-( The same thing seems to be happening here. I woke up today with the tell tale aches and pains and stuffed head. Several smoke friendly christmas parties soon. Hope this cold is a quick one. At least its summer time in OZ. Lucky Them
Mel Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Two years ago after a turkey hunt, where I did not kill a bird, I decided to console myself with a Part SD1 EL. I had a cold in the last week but I was much better. After three puffs my nose plugged bigger than **** and I could not taste a thing. I left the band on the whole time just so I could prove to myself that I was smoking a great cigar. Had a upset stomach and fever yesterday with no cigar but I feel better today going for a Cohiba Lancero tonight.
El Rushbo Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Sad tale. I've been sick for a few weeks now (cold and such; teaching teenagers keeps one sick for the better part of winter) and have been craving the last Sig. VI in the humi pretty badly...but I don't want to waste it.;-)
