Joker Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Off to Singapore soon, and was wondering if any FOH members could recommend any cigar divans / retailers (or even any to avoid) Thanks in advance for any advice
Fuzz AI Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Singapore has a very high tax on tobacco products. I wouldn't recommend purchassing anything over there unless you are smoking it right then and there. Also, I'd be hesitant to bring any tobacco into Singapore. They no longer have any duty free concession for tobacco products. From what I've read, any tobacco brought in will be charged duty at Customs. The fine for not declaring is pretty hefty, $500SGD for a single pack of cigarettes.
Fuzz AI Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 On the upside, you can bring in 3L worth of duty free booze in the following combinations: Option A: 1L each of Spirits, Wine & Beer Option B: 2L of Wine and 1L of Beer Option C: 1L of Wine and 2L of Beer
ZinZan Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Do check out La Casa Cubana, Jimmy Ng's cigar shop at the Regent Hotel. It would probably be extremely expensive but they've got some out of this world vintage cigars, if not to buy it would be just a privilege to see some of this vintage cigars and whisky. Jimmy is renown collector and good friend of Nino of Flying Cigar.
westg Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Without a doubt the most expensive place to buy cigars in the world. Went to the Davidoff shop and one yes one Cohiba 1966 was $200..no BS. Mate you seem pretty well stocked so take a few with you.. The flip side is you should be getting around $1.25 for every Aus $ converted..I travel to Sing once or twice a year and have not been overly impressed with any retailers stock. By all means have a look around, you mighht see something you really like. You are probably aware of what to bring in or not duty free, however I found most of the stock in Changi severely tampered with, again check it out T3 and T2 both have a reasonable range. Singapore's duty prices are about the same as you would pay here for cigars minus the 25% in conversion. You MIGHT be able to get the TRAVEL RETAIL SELECTION which actually consists of three cigars and you will be safe Otherwise T spend it on your kids mate and have a fun time over there.
harmesh Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 A place that's been mentioned here before, I think Rob is friends w the (female) owner, is The Connoisseur Divan, 207 River Valley Road. Didn't get there myself last time in Spore so I can't provide any first hand info. Changi T3 has a dedicated cigar store but it's not particularly cheap. Cheaper than Aussie retail though.. I second the Connoisseur Divan my fav place whenever I am in Singapore , good selection of cigars and single malt . http://www.connoisseurdivan.com/
