Jnaube Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 COHIBA SIGLO VI TEB OCT-08 A stellar smoke My girlfriend and I went to the doctor today to do our firstfollow up on her pregnancy. For the first time we heard the baby’s heartbeat. It felt magical. I think I’m going to remember this moment forever. To celebrate this amazing thing, I decided to light up one of my favourite smokes, a Cohiba Siglo VI, box code TEB OCT 08. I had this cigar with a bottle of Caol Ila distillers edition singlemalt Islay scotch. A smoke/peat monster that I affectionate a lot. These cigars have been in my humidor for at least threeyears and every time I light one, it’s like time is stopping. There was someplume on the stick when I took it out of my humi, I dusted it out to reveal thesplendid milk chocolate colored wrapper of this canonazo cigar. Just a thing ofbeauty. PRE LIGHT OBSERVATIONS Rolled to perfection, no veins, the cigar looked great. Ifound a small green spot on the wrapper but this happens every now and then. The foot of the cigar is packed with dark brown tobacco. Construction isflawless. The Siglo smelled like heaven. For a moment, I was having areal nosegasm with the generous aromas of my cigar. Cedar, spices, butter, cream, wet cherry wood, a smell I know a lot since I use it when I smoke ribs. To open the cigar, I decided to use the punch, I just thinkit looks cleaner. Took a couple of puffs to taste before I light the thing andtasted salt, graham crackers, sand, latté. Draw is perfect. It makes me wonder if I ever had a badSiglo VI. Sitting on my deck with my dog, the sun slowly disappearing on the horizon, Iwas expecting, as usual, a stellar smoke. And that’s exactly what happened. FIRST THIRD Lighted this baby with some cedar. I prefer the soft flameapproach when lighting a smooth cigar like this. First thing I get is cream. Man this puro is smooth... Evenmore than a 1966 I had a couple of days ago. Seconds after I lit the thing, I’mimmediately bombarded with milk, cream, caramel , cedar. The ash is pale and snowy white on the outside and darker onthe inside. To this point, I think the Siglo VI is probably the top regularproduction Cuban around. The more I smoke it, the more I get mounds and moundsof coffee, cream. It’s uber generous in flavours. Suddenly, I’m hit by a very shitty smell... I then realisemy dog took a dump behind me... Talk about bad timing... Back to the cigar. Steady burn. Near the middle of the firstthird, I find milk chocolate flavours. Big time. Taste was so omnipresent itwas like having an Umpa Lumpa party in my mouth... Really. Seriously, still in this first third, I get sea salt, sand. This is transporting me to the perfect beach of Cayo Blanco in Cuba. Man I missthis place. What a first third. This thing is followed by cherry wood, autumnlike aromas. Like walking in the forest during autumn, after it rained... No bitterness, no harshness, pure bliss. Have I said I lovethe Siglo VI? SECOND THIRD I’m still amazed by this beautiful white ash. Cigar has agreat feeling in my hands. Gotta love the canonazo size. Back to toffee aromas. I really have to pace myself, this cigaris so good, it’s like having a poutine at 3 am... You just can’t stop eating. After toffee, caramel hits my mouth. Surprisingly I think Itasted some meaty aromas. Almost beefy, freshly grilled kinda thing. Back to sea salt, almost like licking a rock of salt.Followed by liquorice and pepper. I’m amazed by this cigar. It’s so tasty, yet so smooth. It’sa shame these cigars are so expensive, I would smoke three a day. This cigar is climbing it’s way into my top 3 for 2012 with the Cohibas 1966 and theMonte Sublimes. The second third was near the end but just before that, I found some black cherriesaromas, garlic salt, sea salt... The end of the second third, except for theblack cherry, was on the mineral side. LAST THIRD To this point, this experience is close to cigar porn. It’s definitely a classic Cuban cigar on thelight medium side. The 52 ring gauge allows it to stay smooth and creamy evenif I used the punch. Again I’m hit with graham crackers, add to that honey. Theonly thing missing in this cigar is marshmallow and you get a smore... On a more serious note, graham crackers are followed bysugar cane, brown sugar, chocolate, flour/pastry kind of taste. It’s almost brioché. Near the end, I get cream, leather, nutmeg and... A stupidfly commited suicide in my glass of scotch. Talk about bad timing. Up to the nub, I’m still smoking. Getting a slightbitterness, mixed with dark chocolate and nuts. Flavor overload. This smoke could have lasted forever. For all of you CC’slovers out there, if you haven’t tried the Sig VI, do it. It’s truly amazing.
UpInSmoak Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Good Review! I'm a big fan of the siglo series. I haven't had a VI yet though
LGC Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Nice review; but the pics are so small that I can hardly see them
Jnaube Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Sorry man, it's the consequence of having a full frame professional camera. The size is not that big. They are like 400 kb each ( reduced from 6 to 9 mo) at least there not heavy.
nikesupremedunk Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Love your photos and the detailed adventure. I had my first one this weekend that I thought was fully dry from being over humidified but it must've still been wet. By second half it returned to normal and I must say I feel like I only got half the experience. I have a 10 box coming in and I can't wait to give it another shot. Thanks for the review!
celtmick1984 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Congrats on the happy news and thanks for the review! I've had one Siglo VI, but the draw and burn were off a little, and the stick was not nearly as aged. After this review, I'm really looking forward to getting a quality 10 box to age.
UpInSmoak Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I have a box of Genios, the same size as the Vi, obviously with a different wrapper. Rob once posted how he thought the blends were the same, and that if you switched the wrapper, you couldn't tell the difference between the two. Jeannick, are you a fan of the maduro line? Any thoughts?
Jnaube Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Huge fan of the maduro series. I find them a bit stronger than the siglos. I'm not sur it's as simple as just changing the wrapper to have the same cigar. I think the maduro ( i own a a box of magicos and a box of genios) series differs in the sense that it's aged. Taste and smell is different. My Sig6 was almost 5yo and it was far from a maduro. Still, i'm sold to Cohiba and Trinidad. For me, they are simply the best.
kidmac Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Great review the siglo vi has treated me good evertime as well!!
cliff Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 congrats with the pregnancy, I'm in the same boat you are, a few weeks ago I also heard the hartbeat of our new member... and seconds later I heard another one twins! anyway, nice review of a splendid cigar! TEB08 is always a good smoke (that is, if the cigars aren't misplaced in another box while placing taxbands with the importer)

thechenman Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Nice review. Thanks for sharing the experience, and congrats on being on your way to fatherhood. Just wondering if you decided to cut the cigar sometime during your smoke and why. It just looks like you cut it in the last pic, but I could be wrong.
Jnaube Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Withnabout and inch and a half left. Flavors were getting a bit too concentrated. A simple cut enabled me to enhance the draw and makemthe smoke a lot smoother.

ritan Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Congrats on the good news...and awesome review. I've never tried a Siglo VI but I fear your review has put me on a dangerous slope... Thanks for sharing.
Croz71 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Great review mate Just bought a 3 pack tubos of this cigar. Resting in humi for awhile but after reading this review I'm not sure how long they will stay there
Jnaube Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 Did you take them out of the tubo? I personnaly would.
Croz71 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Did you take them out of the tubo? I personnaly would. No I haven't, I've taken the lids off. Do you think they are better off right out tubo and put into my singles draw? Thank you for you advice, Ive only been in this hobby for 1 1/2 years so all information is greatly appreciated Cheers Allan
