three solid weeks of unadulterated sewage from nsw and their coach and supporters, all because our footy team has had the unmitigated audacity to keep beating nsw. non stop whinging. not as tho the refs, who made perfectly decent proper decisions last time were qlders. and given decades of being on the wrong end of the stick when it comes to dodgy decisions (just ask the king), it is a bit rich for such bleating now. do i smell burning martyr?

anyway, all good fun and go those glorious maroons tonight! will those who declared origin dead last time still refuse to watch? fat chance, i suspect.

now i like roy masters - he coached st george to the flag back in the 70s (as a kid, followed them until a broncos team joined the comp) - and i know he'll have been giggling the entire time he wrote this but seriously? here is some of the latest crap. you'd think we burnt children in their beds, the way we are being treated. and he wants to be treat6ed as a serious journo!! mind you, he was the bloke that instigated the fibro dwellers v silvertails between wests and manly and fired blokes up by having them headbutt each other pre game (think les boyd and dallas donnelly).

If perchance, Queensland beat us tonight at the game we introduced to Australia, let us console ourselves that NSW are moving closer to beating Queensland at their own boastful little game.

Tonight's match is perhaps the most critical in NSW history. A Blues win means our team goes to Brisbane where, given the way crowds influence nervous referees, we at least have some excuse for losing.

A loss tonight means we must endure the ignominy of Queenslanders, with their red eyes and XXXX-bloated bellies, chanting a maniacal ''three peat, three peat.''

You can be certain that if Queensland win tonight, ''seven blot'' will echo south of the Tweed and most of Melbourne will be cheering for them as well. After all, apart from Victoria's petty attitude to NSW, the Storm's best players are Queenslanders.

Hahaha, I stay away from the news, NRL.com, press releases yadda yadda yadda for this reason.

When you're staring down the barrel of 7 series losses I would imagine it would be VERY difficult to avoid making excuses. If the reporter \ press asked R.S. or the team "why aren't you winning games" there is only so many times you can answer "because the Maroons are too good". PLUS it's better for the series: a 'scandal' builds passion, anger and- of course- publicity.

If I opened a paper and read "we were robbed; we are going to fight back with vengeance" it fires up the blood and makes you look forward to a good game. If I opened the same paper and read "Blues admit they have been crap for 6 years and hope they are lucky on the day"... well... it just isn't very good reporting.

I'm sure it comes down to mind tricks too: Stuart plays up the 'robbed' angle, Mal calls NSW a bunch of sore losers.

Bugger ALL the hype. Bugger ALL the excuses, whinging, one-ups-manship... just bring on 'Game 2'. And if this year isn't our year? So-be-it. Bring on 2013 already.

for all the crap, i know stuart's manager quite well - ricky and mal are close mates and catch up regularly and help each other out (but better for publicity of that doesn't get out). and roy masters is actually one of the cleverest journos around - that would have been very well orchestrated.

i'll be happy with ten straight. but if seven years ago, anyone asked any qld supporter if they would take 6 and lose the 7th, every single one would have said yes in a heartbeat. of course, once you've got those 6, you then don't want to lose the 7th.

and a million to one that there won't be a good old fashioned all-in tongiht. sam will be missed.

on a more mutually acceptable note, i'm going to pull out a big hamlet for the event (probably not a statement you'd make on any other forum) and some zacapa xo - also have a blue label chimay from 1997. always wanted to try and old one so snuck one in the cellar many years ago and found it last week.

trust me, it will be the only thing blue that will be acceptable on the night.

I'll stick to my guns, I ain't watching it. Rather watch repeats on the Sci-Fi channel than see NSW be beaten again. There's only so many times you can watch a train wreck before it gets depressing.

fuzz, i've put up with a decade or more of the reds being crap before they finally came good again, two decades of the skins being even worse and nearly a decade of the lions in the sewer. we all deserve something sometime.

Aw dude, you have to stick through the sh*t times...

My mate, who isn't a big footy fan, was on board the "Hayne Train" when Parra was steam-rolling into the finals a few years back... next year he was a lot less vocal. This year I'm chatting to him and he claims "I don't like Parra, I just live near there". Guarantee that if they were in the eight (or moreso in the 4) he would still be waving the blue and yellow.

I'm not too precious- my punters club has the following bits and pieces on tonight's game:

* Uate first try + NSW win 1 - 12

* Jennings last try

* NSW to win by 10

* Exact score NSW 18 - 10

Each bet was for approx. $5 so we're not completely crazy ;) but I'll take the crap\glory later when the future provides a win or loss :D

the only thing i'd add to the bets is that, and i have no idea why, if you look at the record over the history of origin (and it doesn't seem to matter whether the game is still in the balance or long decided), qld score the last try time after time. perhaps law of averages will swing it back but i'd be looking to someone like slater or inglis for the last try (jennings will probably have been sent off or hooked by then anyway).

uate up first not a bad bet.

as for the final score, both sides have so much firepower, i'd be expecting a bigger score. from both sides.

and yes, my nephews swap teams in most codes every year. almost always to whoever won last year or whoever got the big transfers. they have not quite grasped the concept of the joy and pain that comes with following the same side decade after decade. my only swap was when the brizzy broncos joined the nrl - i'd been a saints fan till then. made easier by being overseas for four years during the broncos entry and so saw almost no league at all.

I am a dyed in the wool Queenslander. Anything Sky Blue makes me puke.

3 weeks between games and we haven't heard anything but whinging and cheap shots form NSW.

NSW should win tonight. Everything is in NSW favour. Home ground, fit team and umpires who by now should be comliant + the need for a series defining final in Brisbane come 3 weeks.

However....HOWEVER...just in case it doesn't come to pass......I look forward to the Ricky Stewart bleating :lol3:

i will say that in fairness to the blues, i hate the detested waratahs far more.

there are even times when i'd swap a blues win for a guaranteed waratahs loss against qld (i can never forgive the waratahs for actually forcing me to support kiwi teams - that is, whenever they play the waratahs). today not one of those days.

Funny thing is that I had the same 18 - 10 score for Game one and it came true... but for the wrong team \ reverse order. Now I'm hoping for a mirror result. And with the weather still looking a bit foreboding, that is the reason pretty-much. But I do like what you said about QLD last try... I'll keep that in mind for G3 ;)

Damn. Wish Australia wasn't so bloody huge, I'd love to pop up for the origin bash. Sounds awesome. Perhaps next year!

put down petero for the final try next game!!

and do come up and join us for the new catch-cry "EIGHT STRAIGHT".

sorry, ricky wants us all to be humble.

There's supporting your team through the tough times, and then there's coping a flogging just because you enjoy the pain. I won't be going down that road... again... :lookaround:

The only "shots" coming from NSW should be sniper fire from the grandstand. That's the only way we'll win. :P

.... NSW may be poor losers..... But geez Louise QLDers are such poor winners.

I'm stuck deep in enemy territory in Mackay with my trusty Blues scarf? Will watch it in the the Motel room though.

$20 blues 1-12

$20 blues 12+

Statistics are with the blues, if you flipped a coin that many times, would have had heads long ago!

Love the passion in this game. So happy for the win... Going to be a rough ride at Suncorp, like scaling Everest, but hopefully games 1 and 2 have us well prepared.

Carn you Blues! Good win, boys!

great game.

in rugby, the hayne drop is a knock on every day. assume different in league? raises the question was cronk better to make the tackle he did (and agree he deserved ten for it) or chance it to slater. a how many angels on a pinhead question. i have a tciket for game 3 and can't wait.

I'm not huge on the rules, but saw the same move performed a few weeks ago during a standard NRL match... at first I thought the same thing- knock on, or accidental knock on at least.

The way it was explained what that it's the equivalent of drop kicking the ball... sure, it was a complete fluke, but how can you always tell what a player 'meant' to do? And since the ruling would have to be consistent it's considered a kick.

Agreed- good game. And not just because of the win; there is so much NSW can improve on from it. Carney can learn how to kick, Uate can learn how to catch on the full (both of these cannot be palmed off on the weather). And QLD find themselves in a position to improve too- Slater played poorly IMO, Smith seemed to miss a little bit of his "shine" (but that could be down to anything). The prospects of game 3 are exciting!

if it was not petero's swansong, i suspect he'd be gone. doing very little these days.

i don't know the rule in league but certainly for rugby (and i thought league) that if you drop it (and no one deliberately intends to drop it) then a knock on. but no matter - although if it had been the other way, we'd have had to put up with stuart bleating for another three weeks. slater obviously playing injured and now likely to miss game 3. inglis to fullback and neilsen in? we have a few blokes who need to get the hunger back - that loss might do it. thought harrison was very poor.

given 12 of the points last night came from the time cooper was off and in the first, the only nsw tries were from fumbled kicks, the defence has been tops. the attack just has not clicked. do we miss lockyer that much? i didn't think we would but perhaps he was even better and more important than we thought.
