I am building my first humidor, and I am in need of cedar in order to line the inside. Does anyone know of the best place to order cedar? Also, I was going to use 1/4 inch, however, Amazon has cedar veneer and it is much cheaper. Is veneer an acceptable substitute being that most of the cigars will be in their boxes?

Any feed back would be helpful. I will post pics when I am finished.

I would not use regular cedar. Find spanish cedar. Its not the same at all, its not even real cedar. I have heard that mahogany plywood is good as well.

Try this site http://woodworking.rockler.com/nav/cat1/hardware/cat2/hardware_box-hardware/cat3/hardware_box-hardware_humidors/0?

or

both are great place to get Spanish Cedar.

Spanish Cedar is neither Spanish nor is it a cedar; It's South or Central American and a family to the Mahogany Tree.

This is a project I'd better not even entertain... could be more addictive than the cigars. I'm currently trying to figure out how to finish turning a piece of walnut to make a shaving brush handle (and trying not to buy a new lathe).

Thank you all. I found a local dealer in New Jersey that sold me a 2x8 sheet of 1/4 cedar for far less then anything I saw on line. Now I just hope the humidor will be square and hold humidity. If not, back to the drawing board.

Hopefully you meant Spanish Cedar. Be sure to use a respirator as Spanish cedar sawdust is thought to be carcinogenic.

Can't wait to see pictures!
