Ophidion Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I got this as a part of a five pack of famosos so I have no idea what the box code is. However, the box looked really old and the cuban seal had started to yellow so based on that I am going to say 40 years old (kidding). Prelight: Cut with my cheap punch on my keychain and the cigar opened up with honey, spice and a light soil finish on the cold draw. The cigar was evenly packed, heavy in the hand and produced a nice draw. 1/3: Immeadiately the cigar opens with a buttery smoke that tastes exactly like honey, grass and soil. Its not a hugely complex cigar but it delivers its flavors in a very straight forward approach. The smoke output isn't very much, but what smoke does come though is very flavorful and creamy. The burn is fairly even and draw remains constant for the first 1/3 of the cigar. 2/3: The soil has dropped off the radar for the time being and has been replaced with a slight leather flavor. There are still tons of honey, spice and a bit of coffee (which may actually be the soil flavor disguised as a coffee). The smoke output has also picked up while maintaining a very cool, creamy smoke. The flavor and body are medium-full at this point and very enjoyable. 3/3: Earthy/coffee flavors remain with the same honey, grass and spice as the first two thirds. The only difference is that the strength has picked up and it has started smoking a little warmed, yet not overpowering. Overall thoughts: This cigar is one of my true "go to" cigars when I am in the mood for a cohiba flavor profile (mostly the grass and leather) for about 1/2 the price. I have sampled a good deal of the VR marca and the famoso and Don Alejandro have been my favorite to date. The DA is one of the only DC cigar I really enjoy and the famoso is in my top three robustos right next to the RASS and boli RC. This review just reminds me that I need to get a box of famosos one of these days.
Rushman Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm so bummed as I'm out of Famosos now and it's one of my faves! Nice review. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631745,-87.070749
