The stick came as part of a sampler put together by El Pres and was the tubos version of the cigar. The weather here (Northern Ireland) has been superb for the last few days and has been calling me to both cigars and the golf course. As has happened in the past, the temptation to combine two loves was too much to resist.

This Mag 50 was the first I had tried and certainly looked the business. Construction was good and it felt heavy in the hand. The wrapper smooth and quite dark. I clipped the cap on the 4th tee box to reveal a firmish draw and some tea flavours.

Upon lighting, I had a brand new smoking experience: floods of salty flavour. I have thought I noticed salty nuances in cigars before but this was different. The initital draws were so salty, though not unpleasant. After the first 2-3 draws, it settled down a bit and the first inch or so was so beautiful with salt and milk chocolate making for an enjoyable smoke.

My golf of course deteriorated as I tried to concentrate on two things at once. I'm pretty sure that the air was a little more humid than the ideal cigar smoking conditions and along with trying to play golf meant that the Mag 50 required several touch ups and relights. Previously, I had vowed not to attempt the two pastimes together but each time I always think I can make it work!

I smoked the cigar for around an hour and a quarter before I got fed up with all the stop/start nature of what I was attempting. The first inch was memorable for the milk chocolate and particularly for the salt and after that it became a mediocre companion. I'm sure this was my fault. After setting this Upmann down, my golf game returned and I made a strong finish. Really looking forward to revisiting this (potentially on Sunday) in slightly less humid conditions, in my garden, with no other distractions but a beer.

Hi David,

Yes, definitly give this cigar a better opportunity to show itself to you. These cigars are generally quite consistently excellent in construction and flavor. I really enjoy the Mag50! Let us know how the one you have in your garden works out, and include some photos of your garden! :photog:

Thank you,

Curtiss

The weather here has been excellent, i smoked a humble partagas short while walking round lady dixon park on monday night, then a nice big cohiba siglo iv out the back with a few beers/wine. It seems as if our summers in northern ireland are getting earlier, i always try to make the most of it by snoking as much as i can.

Good review.
