EL1990 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Hey there, I'm going on my very first trip to Cuba in June and am not quite sure what documents they need us to have on arrival. I have a few questions and hopefully someone can answer them for me:) FYI i'll be leaving from Toronto. 1) The tourist card, do we get them on arrival in Cuba or are they given to us on the airplane? 2) What about health insurance? My invoice says I need to buy one. Will my Ontario health card be good enough? 3) If the OHIP card is not recognized, can I just buy the insurance sold at the Havana airport? Is it worthwhile? Thanks in advance! EL

Thanks in advance! EL I can't answer question 1. But as far as question 2 & 3. OHIP will do you no good in Cuba. As for insurance. Check your current benefits with your employer. Chances are that you might have coverage for travel. If you don't you can buy it from most insurers online for the duration of your trip. Expect to pay $40 - $60 per couple for about a week's coverage. Whatever you choose, speak to your insurer about any Cuba specific information. Be prepared just in case. Have a great trip. Should be scorching hot there in June!
maverickdrinker Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 you get your tourism card on the plane to cuba
Nedule Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 1. Tourism card on the plane 2. Cuba says you need health insurance to enter & if not you have to buy it from the Cuban gov't, I never got asked to show mine & never saw anyone in the customs line pull it out, so you could probably slip through without it, but for $50/person, much better than ending up in the hospital with nothing. 3. I'd much rather have Canadian Insurance, if you don't know who to buy from I suggest Blue Cross, they have some of the best travel insurance (my day job is an insurance broker)
PoohBore Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 More importantly where are you going and what are you bringing back ?
