The power of media.

Noticed this story the other day.

An alternative source is here.

A classic David and Goliath story.

Also, a great example of how modern media can work to the advantage of the little guy, and expose the cheat, and I guess there can be nowhere to hide for the big boys, who's actions may previously have gone unnoticed.

But the main point is, Brewdog make bloody good beer.

Nothing Diageo make comes anywhere near.

They make some ridiculously strong stuff, almost as a statement, but their standard range is high quality Craft Beer.

My favourite being the Punk IPA...heavenly.

Excellent, good on those guys. With their brewery not far from where I live I've been drinking their beer for a while now. Their first pub in Aberdeen is a favourite of mine. I love the Hardcore IPA and 5am Saint.

Yeah, the hardcore is a bit too much alcohol for me, but the 5am saint is excellent.

I've also got one of their Abstract bottles, which is their experimental stuff, a pale coloured stout..I think...

They also did a four pack of IPA recently, each made with a different hop....interesting to taste the difference.

More power to the small brewers!

Love to see the little guy that puts out a premier product prevail. I would love to get my hands on some of their product.

But kudos to Diaego for actually admitting their mistake instead of trying to play it off or spin it. I am assuming, of course, that their apology and admission were straightforward and not a spin job.

They couldn't do much else, as they had made a complete mess of it.

The story goes;

An independent panel decides Brewdog brews the best beer for that year, for a small brewery.

The trophy is carved, Brewdog informed, and they turn up to the function.

Diageo representatives wet their pants at the thought of Brewdog winning, and demand the winner to be some other.

The other brewer's name is announced, and up they go while Brewdog are wondering WTF?

The other brewer looks at the trophy, sees Brewdogs name on it and says "I'm not having that".

Much embarrassment and back peddling from Diageo.......

Haven't been able to read the full story due to firewalls. If it is a case of big business trying to nobble the outcome of a competition, I am sure it is not the first time this has happened. I enjoy my micro brewery ales but then again I like Talisker, Oban and Guinness the latter three made by the offending company.

No, I'm sure it happens all the time..but it's still crap, however often it happens.

Not keen on any of the mentioned drinks myself, as I find these large companies buy the smaller companies, and their reputation, then set about making a blander product to appeal to a wider market.

I drank guinness in Ireland 25 years ago....it tasted vastly different to what I find in the local pump now.

The smaller breweries produce a far higher quality product, with a passion in their product, not seen in mass market beer of any kind.

Either way, this attempt to manipulate the results of an independently judged competition, by a company that is already in control of enough of the market share....is really scummy behaviour.

Same with most good small companies, often family owned, versus larger profit/board/share holder driven companies... Recently I've been on tours of shepherd neame and hook norton breweries. Shepherd neame a big public company who also brew imported beers under license, they make some good specials but their standard lines are mediocre at best, hook norton, small family run brewery, outstanding beers all round...

Diageo had no option but public apology on this one, so good company, or spin based on backs to the wall...?

Does Brewdog sell bottles of whiskey in stuffed baby seals???? :innocent::stir:

Don't give them ideas.......

here is the link to the latest on this story.

These huge companies really are cheating scumbags.....
