Hypersomniac Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 So, my family (mom, dad, siblings, myself, girlfriend) is going to Hawaii, Maui to be exact, with two other families the first week of June. I am the only person that smokes. My dad loathes smoking, my mom isn't a fan, but when I said I wanted to smoke a cigar on the beach, it's not like she has any plans of stopping me, and my girlfriend, while having smoked with me before, isn't a big fan. I know that nobody in the other families smoke. I know nothing about smoking laws in Hawaii, so if anybody could help me out on that, it would be very much appreciated. I am also wondering how good of cigars I should bring? I will be bringing them in a herf-a-dor, and have never brought them by plane before so I don't know how well they keep, whether to take them carry-on or check them, and if I carry them on, whether I need to remove bands from Cubans or not (traveling from within the US to begin with)? I just don't know how well cigars travel, so I am not sure whether it is worth it to bring some of my best cigars. From what I have been able to find, there is no smoking in any public enclosed, or partially enclosed area, or within 20 feet of any enclosed or partially enclosed public area. So it would seem to me that enjoying a cigar on the beach would be okay (perhaps not with all the other people, but legally anyway). Any other advice would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks guys.

investandprosper Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 You pretty much have it down. No smoking in restaurants or within 20 feet of buildings. Beaches and parks are fair game as far as I know. Bring your best, they smoke well here and the humidity is around 70%. Don't put any humidification devices in your herf-a-dor, the pressure on the plane will saturate and ruin the cigars (found this out the hard way my first trip bringing cigars to Vegas). Bring a good torch lighter, it has been pretty windy here lately! Enjoy your stay, and PM me if you want to meet up for a smoke. John

Orion21 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I just got back from Maui yesterday and all I can say is cigars do smoke perfectly there aside from the wind. Just load up your travel humidor and enjoy. I met half a dozen guys enjoying cigars after dinner etc. on the beaches and we had a good time. Enjoy your time on Maui!
daggersarge Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Devyn, by all means carry them on. Don't check them. And take the bands off the cuban cigars, replace them with an NC band or just leave them off. After living there for 7 years I know how airport security works. They will confiscate the cuban cigars as contraband and after you leave they will "officially" destroy them in "tiny little fires". You can put the bands back on after you get to the hotel. Enjoy your trip. Sarge
