Ken Gargett Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 down at the barber's today for a quick snip. woman cutting the hair (my god, she could talk) was all excited as apparently we have a $50 million lotto drawing today or yesterday? she was hoping to win. she says, 'i am a great believer in karma so if i won, i'd give $20,000 to charity". out of $50 mill, that would be tempting karma to kick your butt from here to eternity, i would have thought.
MrGlass Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 $50 million Oz Lotto draw was last night. Nobody won division one, so maybe you were right. It's up to $70 million next week, so your hairdresser might have to up her donation to $30,000 (but I doubt it).
Fuzz AI Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Donating 0.0004% of your winnings to charity, eh? Yep, karma is definitely gonna come round to kick your @$$!
MrDowse Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and put it down to a lack of imagination and inability to conceive of how much money that really is. Recently a young couple won £45 million in the UK lottery, and were asked what the first thing was that they were going to buy...and they answered? "a washing machine" At that point i threw my shoe at the TV.
khamy Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I won't be greedy, happy to just win 5m, but won't refuse $70m
SuprHasan Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Out of $50mil, I'd give 10mil to charity personally, meaning that I'd help those in need myself and not through an organisation. Build an orphanage and school in my hometown. Buy a house for my grandma. Buy a new car for my aunt, replacing her shitbox. Buy a house and car for mom and dad. Help my brothers with starting a home. Buy that SLS Roadster I've been eyeing. Nice house in a nice neighborhood. Buy my mother in law a better home. Help a few friends who have fallen on tough times. Build a walking humidor in my mancave and stock it with some tasty treats. Hire El Prez as my personal cigar shopper. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he???? :daydream:
Duane Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 funny when i went to work last night i was like why is this car park so full?, and as i got close to work i saw an huge line outside the newsagent and thought hey them silly buggers lining up and than saw the sign for 50mil i was like hmmmm dream dream dream....... told some customers in work, wont it be funny if it didnt go off? and to my surprise it didn't, might have to get myself an ticket!. I'd be happy to have 500k enough to get my own home and than work to keep my habbits not greedy
Fuzz AI Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 A mate got an email stating he had won in the lottery, 6 out of 7 numbers! Pay out was a whopping $86.79!!
Colt45 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 that would be tempting karma to kick your butt from here to eternity... I guess if any of us has insight into karma......
nick17 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 come on everyone know you must give at least 1% to get good karma enough to win a big jackpot i know what I would do if i won that... I would donate at least 10% to various causes, payoff my parents mortgage, buy my self a nice downtown condo and buy lots of cigars from rob and maybe hire hamlet as my personal roller
NMJoe Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I could live very well from just the interest on $50 million. $20k? Yup, that could be a direct ticket to Hell.
celtmick1984 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Given the amount of taxes you pay, the inflationary policies pursued by governments around the world (being big debtors), etc., 50 million ain't what it used to be. The interest you're likely to get, especially on anything like a rock-solid investment, is very low and probably couldn't sustain you in luxury given inflationary pressures and cost of living increases for more than 20 years without some subsidization from principle.Heck, in the late 1890s, the Vanderbilt Estate was valued at around 200 million, was split between something like 10 heirs, who could all afford to build grand estates that still have not been outclassed to the present. And then estate taxes and income taxes (and the fed reserve) caught on and becoming filthy rich for life went the way of the dodo bird.
