JohnnyC Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 LIsa, It is an adapter to play 45 RPM records on a record player. I know because I use to play the Beatles 45 records in the 60"s...Damn I guess I am showing my age.
maverickdrinker Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 yup. Used for old records. Damn! I am aging myself.
Colt45 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 That, is an adapter - put in the center hole of a 45rpm record so it could be played on a record player. Record player spindles were usually sized for the smaller hole of the full sized LP record. oops, too late
canadianbeaver Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Shhhhhh... spoilers. Liked my answers better.
Marker Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 They also made discs similar in design and size that when into plastic guns in the 80s. Shot discs instead of ping pong balls etc.
Michel1968 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 yups... spindle adapter... If it makes you happy we'll just stick to I.U.D for a few hours
canadianbeaver Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 yups... spindle adapter... If it makes you happy we'll just stick to I.U.D for a few hours That would make me happy... was hoping to drag some of our 20 yr old members in to my spidey web...
Colt45 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 That would make me happy... was hoping to drag some of our 20 yr old members in to my spidey web... If any of our twenty year old members use it as an IUD, they're going to end up as twenty one year old parents... Now where's my 8-track.....
Michel1968 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 That would make me happy... was hoping to drag some of our 20 yr old members in to my spidey web... 20yrs? oh my... that's 24yrs past shelf life...
mazolaman Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 That would make me happy... was hoping to drag some of our 20 yr old members in to my spidey web... It's the symbol that will appear in the sky when the world ends, this year, as per that prophecy thingy. I'm 38. Do I win a bannana?

Bunner Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 ha I saw this already in a couple unrelated forums... I'm not getting on too much but know what that is.
NMJoe Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 The record player my parents had when I was growing up had a cylindrical adapter that fit over the spindle and allowed full use of the "next record drop functionality" with 45s. Funny, the things that take you back in time.
ptrthgr8 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 They also made discs similar in design and size that when into plastic guns in the 80s. Shot discs instead of ping pong balls etc. Similar to this... but it's not the one I had growing up.
Nino Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 yup. Used for old records. Damn! I am aging myself. Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... :
canadianbeaver Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... : Thank you for being on the same page Nino!!!! That is hilarious!!!!!
ptrthgr8 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... : I'm assuming you mean the rewinding tool? I'm only 39 and I can clearly remember using pencils for that. Hell, when I was a kid I remember my grandpa still having an 8-track player in his truck. Man, I used to think I was so cutting edge with my first Walkman. LOL Cheers, ~ Greg ~
mazolaman Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... : Yep, I can remember that one. Like taping the charts, and trying to hit pause before the dj talked over the end of the song...christ I'm old....
esse Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 hahah amazing - I happen to follow, but just barely. I grew up at the tail end of cassettes the OP, I had no idea what that was!
CanuckSARTech Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... : LOL. Oh my god!!!! I am sooooo guilty of using that trick, over and over and over. That, and stuffing little wads of tissue/toilet paper into the holes on the top two corners of the tape cassettes, so that you could record/duplicate from them, and/or record over them (if they were a crappy NKOTB or Tiffany tape ). LOL.
CanuckSARTech Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Lisa, you should have included another option in your poll - "GI Joe action figure's ninja throwing star." I used those 45 inserts quite a bit for that! LOL. Ahhhhh, good old 45's and 78's.
sam Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'm going now to my exercise room to listen to some old vinyl on my Pioneer PL-55 turn table through my Sansui amp and JBL L36s while I work my stair machine. How's that for making use of the old stereo equipment. I knew immediately what that adapter was. I guess I'm old. ---Sam
nick17 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Lisa i have had the same question for so long i see that used in logos and what not and thank you guys for sharing as for the pencil and tape i get it and im 21
Eltoasto Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Had no idea what that was but it would make a great conversation piece as a coaster. I love the sound of vinyl but I try to keep my expensive hobbies to a minimum. Will a rocks glass fit on it?
