I've never tried the Gins referred to in this thread. Has anyone tried Beefeater and if so how doses it compare?

No competition IMO,

Bombay Saphire is already a class above,

Hendricks and top end Tanqueray yet another step further.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I like Tanqueray. I will have to look for Bombay. Some Liquor can be hard to find where I live.

I'll second that. It's made by the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. The other scottish Gin (Hendricks) is great as well though (not that I'm bias!).

Didn't know that.

I've long enjoyed Islay, and particularly Bruichladdich, so I'll give it a try.

You Are ruining it with tonic just straight gin with fresh lime juice and ice ...You are getting soft in your old age Rob :wink2:

I'm with Lisa. I love gimlets . Do you have Roses Lime juice in OZ ?

IMO even better than fresh lime .

Enjoyed reading through this thread. Gin is a taste I have recently been interested in acquiring. I agree with the general vibe of the thread that my fave is Hendricks, followed by Bombay Sapphire. For some reason, Tanquray and some other gins makes my face "flush" - not sure what causes it.

I'm interested in trying some of the "boutique" distilleries coming to market. While I have limited experience, the boutique brand I would recommend is Death's Door, made is glamorous Wisconsin.

Many more for me to try though! Any advice would always be appreciated.

Try Tanqueray Ten that's my favorite gin. Also pretty good is Millers Gin Westbourne Strength. Both go very well with cigars.

Another vote for Tanqueray 10. It's Magnificent. :perfect10:

Just my opinion: if you are making a G&T - the type of gin doesn't matter as much as if you are not adding the tonic.

That being said, nothing like a G&T and a cigar on a hot summer day!

I have the same feeling. If I drink Gin I have a Gin and Tonic. I prefer to save my money and buy average Gins so I have more money for expensive bourbons.

Hendricks for me with some fresh lime juice and I agree the tonic part is also very important.

In montreal canada there a place were they make theyre own tonic and it's a perfect partner with Hendricks and cucumber

Not sure if any of you guys tried or seen but I am a huge fan of Steinhäger. It is a German gin sold in earthenware bottles. It's not easy to find here in the US, I've actually only found once. Never tried GT with this particular gin, I usually leave the bottle and shot glasses in the freezer and drink a glass or two with beer, just sipping. Once in the freezer the gin becomes very thick and you just add a lime twist. Really good stuff.

Thats a good point.

There's a company over here called Fever Tree who make tonic, which is excellent, and adds much to the drink.

Tastes properly of quinine, not sugary crap.

It's easy to think of cigars in company with dark liquors or a rum, but I take gin by fits and starts and couldn't agree with the Bossman more. It's an excellent choice on a warm day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be one of those here in Almost Level, West Virginia, and I'll get out the Beefeater's and have a drink or dozen.

Ran across a right decent cheap & cheerful gin the other day. Brokers. Made for a nice few G&T's.

Cheers!
