I was getting PM's by several of you asking how you could help the family financially. I am so touched by such generosity and kind hearts, I decided to just post it.

Here is a cut and paste of the original thread: Followed by how you can help.

03/14/2012

I lost my best friend today when he was killed snow skiing while in Colorado. He was a friend, a partner in crime, a father of two, a husband, a coach, a high school principal, a son, a brother and a Godly man who was loved by everyone and known throughout the entire community. He was 36 years old leaving behind a wife and 2 small children. I've been friends with him for 20 years and we were together no less than 2 nights a week EVERY single week. My heart is heavy. RIP Craig! Raise your smoke high to the heavens tonight boys.

UPDATE: 03/25/2012

Well, not sure why God has the timing He does sometimes, how it continues to not make any sense :

My wife and I found out tonight that my friends wife is pregnant with their 3rd child, a child who will never know his/her father. This news only a week after we buried him. I didn't think my emotional system could handle any more, yet to be shocked with this news and feeling utterly broken again.

UPDATE: 03/26/2012

Several members have asked if there was anything they can do financially. The family, unfortunately, was not left in a prime financial position, and with two kids and one new one on the way, they need help. A memorial fund has been set up for the benefit of the kids

Here is a link that talks about and honors what a good man he truly was:

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

He was a principal at a high school and had a small A&D policy through the school district and the generic Life policy through the school district, and whatever he had built up in his teachers retirmement (not much). His life coverage was definatly not enough to sustain his family's needs. Out of all the conversations we had about it , it was always one of those " Let set something up at the end of the summer" or " Let get something going in a couple of weeks" He always put it off and forgot about it, which breaks my heart. He was a very in shape athlete and triathilon, who figured he had much more time to worrry about things like that.

Anyway, needless to say, financially, they are not taken care of yet, and what worries us and his widowed and pregnant wife now is they struggled with the decision to have a third child so much over the past years becasue her first two births had so many complications she almost died both times. They finally had come to a decision to have a third and had been taking fertility treatments and racking up bills for that for a year and a half now. She is very concerned about those bill but also her work. With the first two births she was on bedrest for 2 months each time, her work will not pay her while she is on bedrest and that scares her in an already fragile stressful time. Needless to say they need all of the financial assistance they can get. If you want to make a donation, it would mean a lot to thier family and to myself. Also, later this summer I am heading up a golf tournament, auction and poker tournament that I will be asking this community to donate some cigars and such for it to auction or raffle off - all proceeds will go to this fund. But right now they need the financial assistance. I have dedicated my time, energy and financial means to doing everything I can to plan and organize current and ongoing fundraising for this family.

The fund is the Kim, Caroline & Caden Bowers Memorial Fund:

It is set up at the American National Bank of Texas - Greenville Branch;

It is very kind for anyone to even consider helping a family in need that they have never met. Sometimes there are times in life that we all just say, "You know what, this money means a lot more to them than it does to me right now, and I know I can make a difference and long term impact in the lives of a scared and sad wife, 2 children that will never get their father back, and a new child on the way that will never know what a great man his/her father was.Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am amazed by the kind generous out pouring of support.

David

A couple of FOH members did a fantastic job a few weeks back arranging a cigar raffle to benefit another BOTL whose dog had cancer. I cannot think of a better use of our cigars or money than to help a VERY young widow and her children. I would volunteer my time to try and arrange all of this, but I dont have the expertise or the time needed to make this work.

I'm going to send some PM's out to try and get this going

If Rob reads this -- can we use FOH to host a raffle?

Also, please please please please - if you have a family that you support ( even if your wife works) buy as much life insurance as you can qualify for financially. It doesnt matter if its term insurance, just buy it. I have been a financial advisor for almost 12 years and have heard this story far far too often. Please take care of your families so they are not put in the position to have to depend on the good will and charity of others...
