Phillycyclocross Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Good friend of mine took a video of one of our training rides from the other weekend. It captures what I love about cycling. For any of you non-cyclists watching it's probably a lot of mandex to take in at one time. Enjoy: http://bit.ly/z7ARlI
hammondc Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Rad video. Nice Cannondales. Those are in my short list of road bikes I am considering. Specialized is at the top of the list since I am a specialized MTB fanboy. Have not ridden any yet though.
Miner Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I pass these blokes all the time on my way to work, doing 60kph (about 40mph) in a 50km zone (that's 30mph in the old money), they are MaD!! In the Jeep I am surrounded by steel with about a million airbags and enough computer safety software that could put a man on Mars, these blokes have polystyrene hats and they wear material I would not trust in my underpants. Like I say, They are mad. Cheers PS I have a bike but I ride it in the bush, much safer, no cars !!

I had a Specialized Tarmac S-Works prior to the Cannondale and the S-Works pales in comparison. The Cannondale rails around corners like nothing I've ever felt. The Tarmac was a great climbing bike but other than that it doesn't hold a candle to the CDales. Test them both out sometime. Should be an easy choice.
DougB Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Wow. Beautiful roads. Here's to a great riding season! Thanks for posting this.
Rushman Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Watching that makes my nalgas hurt! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631727,-87.070563
Bolismoker Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Where are you guys riding at? I'm green with envy watching that. I'm still recovering from a ruptured disc suffered in a wreck in Jan. Just started going out for easy spins again. The DH season is starting here soon so got to get back in shape. Thanks again for sharing the inspiration!
chr0nic Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Nice vid- how did you record it? It was very stable and looked at times like it would have been difficult to see both the road ahead and what you were filming... Beautiful scenery!
sighuber Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Great video. I'm not a cyclist but watching that I see similarities to a group motorcycle ride which I can definitely relate to. Nice roads, nice terrain...looks like great time.
partifan Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I'm impressed by the core on those riders. They held drop position or what looked like aerobar position for a while in the vid. My personal trainer has me on 6 days a week of core and I can get maybe 1 mile out of four in drop. Their cadence held rock solid on hills - my bane as a clydesdale.

My buddy is a good cameraman. He would take his helmet off for a lot of it to get those side shots.

I guess it's years of practice. Last year I rode 157 miles down the back coastal roads in that position. Never really got tired with the exception of my neck. My neck would cramp every so often. Just need to sit up (keep pedaling. Dont. Stop. Pedaling.) and do some stretches fr a few mins before getting back in that position.
partifan Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Last year was about 2k miles on a hybrid with slicks, but last month I picked up a cross bike and put on 25 mm slicks so drop is still new. I love the speed of having a real road bike but my body is learning new muscles. Daily Russian twists, planks, side planks, supermans and bird dogs in only a month has made a real difference in my stability. My aim this year is 5k miles. I am only at 150 now since most of my training time goes to running for a 5k in April and an off rode 5k with obstacles in May. After those it will be serious ride time. June, July, and August should be 800 mile months.
