H. Upmann No. 2

Just a real quick one here as I smoked this while driving today and didn't take any notes.

Colorado wrapper, a little bit of oil but not all that much. Sweet leather aroma at cold and a perfect draw.

1/3: Full bodied. A total powerhouse. Earth, leather, and black pepper. If I was tasting this blind I'd swear it was a PSP2.

2/3: Medium to medium full. Heavy cream and anissette. Very rich and very smooth. Flavor is extremely distinctive.

3/3: Full bodied. Carbon copy of the first third.

I was taken aback when I started on this one. It's been a while since I smoked one of these, but I never in a million years would have described any of the previous 23 I've smoked out of this box as tasting anything like a PSP2. They were all medium bodied milk coffee and sweet spices. I was definitely excited about where this one would take me. As the heavy cream and anissette showed up the second third, I was convinced this was going to be one of those truly amazing cigar experiences. The flavors were so strong and so distinct. This one might be in the running for the best cigar I've had in years. Then the final third knocked it down off the pedestal. It wasn't bad by any means, it was actually pretty damn good, but I needed the cigar to take me somewhere new and different.

I give this one a 94. If the final third had showed me something, it could have easily been a 98 or 99. I bought two boxes of these back in 09 and put the better looking/smelling one in deep storage. I think I'll let it sleep for a couple of more years before breaking into it.
