CBL Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Happy Chinese New Year!!! It's the 22nd in our part of the world which means that today is "new years eve" (the 23rd will mark the first day of the new year, or 开年/"opening" year) We'll have almost two weeks of non-stop celebrations and dinners that makes traditional Western Christmas look like a MacDonald's happy meal! Imagine if Hanukah, Christmas and New Year had a threesome which in some way resulted in twins.... THAT'S Chinese New Year. Right now I'm preparing to go to my grandmother's place with a bag full of clothes and mentally preparing for a week filled with screaming and people complaining that OTHER people should help more Kids fighting, uncles getting drunk, people I've never seen claiming they're family coming over to show respect to my grandmother, I love it all! I've got a bag filled with some cigars and my mom's coming over from The Netherlands with some additional cigars from my big humidor, so hopefully I can sneak out to enjoy a smoke and hide from my family a couple of times. This will be my last Chinese New Year that I can celebrate with my family in Taiwan before I graduate so I'll make sure to make it one to remember. So to all my fellow Asians Happy New Year! 新年快樂! p.s. I hope I'm still young enough to get some red envelopes that can go towards a new box of cigars
mazolaman Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 While I'm not a fellow Asian, I still wish you a happy new year. Sounds like good fun, I wish I was wandering up to Grandmas to join in! Hope it's a good year for you.
Fuzz AI Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Gong Xi Fa Cai! Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year!!
CanuckSARTech Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 ....Imagine if Hanukah, Christmas and New Year had a threesome which in some way resulted in twins.... THAT'S Chinese New Year. Now THAT is one hell of an analogy!!! Lol. Best wishes. Have a great one! Cheers.
Mr.T Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Yes indeed! Happy New Year to the Chinese community on FOH and beyond! I just returned from a two week trip to China. I've never been this close to the New Year before and it was an experience to say the least...plenty of bijou and food consumed with my colleagues, fireworks and incredible decorations! The number of people on the move was amazing. Many invitations to stay on for the week but my wife and daughter said NO WAY! Next time!
